Have you heard or experienced this open choice question paper.

What is open choice question paper ?

The choice of question paper will be such that answer say x number of question out of y questions (instead of either of two where one has to answer compulsorily). The evaluator may give marks to all answers without limiting to x answers. For eg. suppose 5 out of 8 has to be answered with each 20 marks and students may answer all 8 questions and valued all marks for final total. Sometimes interestingly students may get more than 100 in subjects like maths or science and however final marks will be awarded as 100. But during internal examination students may be ranked according to the total score.

Have you come across this kind of choice? please share your experience.

I know that if we answer more than the questions to be answered, the evaluator will consider only the number of questions to be answered and will not consider the remaining answers. But he will reject the answers that obtained minimum marks.
If we correctly answer all the questions chances will be there to obtain more than 100 marks. Chances are more so in mathematics and science papers.

Yes @Rao that is the usual practice. But this one is peculiar and teachers will evaluate all the answers and marks will be awarded and sometimes it may go beyond 100 but the final mark statement will show 100 and for others if it is less than 100 they will take total score. This was in TN in PUC say some 40 years ago to promote higher education and it might be there for one or two years only.
