Which is more important for a good school: infrastructure or teachers?

I have observed that the parents get attracted by the infrastructure of the school at the time of admission for their children. Building, school buses, uniforms, annual functions conducted by schools, etc. but they never try to find out about the teachers who are teaching in that particular school.

In my opinion, the teachers are the main assets of the school. I agree that the infrastructure is also important for a good environment for education but the parents should also enquire about the teachers in a school before admitting their children to a school.

I feel the school infrastructure is equally important and to have good, experienced teachers as well for a child's learning process as a student. Indeed, the child spends most of the day in a school environment. Hence the institution must be a home away from home and the environment or infrastructure of the school plays a vital role in grooming the child's academics and behaviour also matters, which can be shaped by the teaching pedagogies. Schools with good infrastructure do have good teachers, I suppose. This applies to private schools. Government schools may not be well-equipped but may have good teachers. It is more prevalent that even parents from poor families would like their kids to study in private schools with good infrastructure. The parents can have a choice to decide the school for their children but not to decide on a teacher of their choice, however.

In my opinion, teachers are very important. At the same time, we can't say that infrastructure is not important. That is also required. When I have to choose one among these two, I will go for teaching staff. What is the use of having a good infrastructure without a teacher who will make the best use of the infrastructure available? If there is a teacher who is good at teaching and likes to teach students properly he tries his best possible ways to make the students understand the subject. A teacher only understands the psychology of the student and accordingly, he can mould his teaching methods so that the student will benefit.
I know some teachers who utilised the infrastructure for their personal use and who never cared for teaching the students. So a good teacher is the best asset for any school. A good teacher can create an infrastructure that is possible for him.

The post raised by the author is very interesting in the sense that there are many parents lured with the infrastructure of the schools. No doubt, infrastructure plays an important role in strengthening the education of the kids. These include improved library facilities, school buses touching almost all parts of cities, audio visual platforms and lastly the lectures of the teachers should be uniform throughout the classroom. Such facilities would help the students to understand the lessons without ease.
Apart from such facilities, an ideal school must take care of retaining the experienced teachers who would take pain to make the lessons interesting wiping out the doubts of the pupils.
Educational sectors is being seen very competitive these days and the best schools take care of. both the components for the benefits of the students.

Infrastructure expectations are co-existent or proportionate to the infrastructure exposure and experience by the parents and students. However expectations about teachers are inversely proportionate to the educational and exposure standards of parents and students.

In interior places like remote villages where otherwise the general infrastructural faculties are less, parents and students do not expect any high level of infrastructure, but just a normal basic infrastructure. However, they expect and depend more on the quality of teachers and staff in the local schools.

We still have children who have to walk or go by local ferry boats etc. to distant schools. They would condone such a lack of infrastructure facilities if they get good guidance and mentoring by good quality experienced teachers. There are still many quotable and notable instances of excellence in academics and sports, put in by students who come from institutions or places with less infrastructure but have good quality teachers and trainers.

Experienced, sincere, able, and efficient teachers and trainers can offset and compensate for any deficiency in infrastructure and turn into good mentors for their needy students. There are umpteen examples in the past and even now.

In my view both the factors are very important for any educational institution to be categorised as a good institution.
On a relative merit scale quality of teachers is very critical as that is which is related to the good learning of the students.

The school management should take adequate care of the talented teachers awarding them substantial perks and emoluments so that they would not think of leaving their present jobs due the pay issues. The image of the best schools are interlinked with the efforts of these teachers and sparing some resources for them would in no way be a loss to the school - management but in the long term, the management would be benefited immensely with the retention of such pools of teachers.

Most humbly I want to submit my opinion on this issue.. Generally, the best and most devoted teachers of a student are the parents. Only after parents, school comes into picture.

So far as a school is concerned, good teacher is definitely much more important than infrastructure. Good teachers can easily make up the infrastructural deficit, but the opposite is never true.

But nowadays, parents give more importance on infrastructure than ggood teachers. Only yesterday, I was discussing this issue with one of my subordinates. She was telling me that in the school of her son, facilities are available for swimming, basketball and even horse-riding. But when I asked her about the teachers of the school, she became silent, because she didn't pay much attention to it. In earlier days, it was different. Parents used to give more attention on the teachers of their sons and daughters.

Even in the school reviews which appear in ISC, we see stress on infrastructure facilities being provided in those schools. The authors of these reviews don't write much about the quality of the teachers of these school.

Good teachers are the main strength of a school or college. I remember in olden times when I was going to school there were no facilities in the school as compared to today but we had some good teachers whose teachings are still vibrating in our ears.
It is also true that basic infrastructure should be available in schools because without that it will be difficult for the students and teachers to manage the classes smoothly. So both the factors are important but I will give much importance to the teachers and their qualities.

    Knowledge is power.
