    The power of meditation

    Title: The power of meditation

Raman was studying in class XI with science subjects. He belonged to a middle-class family. His father had a small job in a private company. Raman lived in a small town. His parents had great hopes for him that he would get admission to some good course after completing class XII and make a good career.

Raman was undoubtedly an intelligent boy but he lacked focus and concentration which is so critical and crucial for thorough studies.

His parents expected him to score more than 95% marks in his High School examination but Raman could score only around 80%. His parents were disappointed but thought that he would give more time to his studies and would do better in his class XII examination.
Raman had an interest in Mathematics and in the half-yearly examination in class XI he scored high marks in that but at the same time, his marks in other subjects were average. Raman did not study those subjects much as he spent a lot of time playing games and sports as well as online games and having fun with friends and children in his area.

One day Raman's father went to the school and talked to the teachers about Raman's performance and all the teachers told the same thing that he was an intelligent boy but somehow was not able to score high.

Raman's father and his colleagues in the company often discussed the performance of their children in school or college and during one such conversation, one of his colleagues told him that if Raman was not able to focus well on his studies then one way to motivate him to do better was to ask him to meditate. Raman's father liked the idea but was not sure whether Raman would accept that or not. Many children because of their tender age would not understand what meditation is and how it would help them. That colleague also told him that there was a motivation hall on the outskirts of the town. It was said that long back it was built by a saint who lived in a nearby temple. The motivation hall is the ideal place for such activities and many people went there and meditated.

The next day Raman's father called Raman and told him that he must concentrate on his studies and reduce the other indulgences in games and fun activities and for that he wanted Raman to go with him to the motivation hall and practice meditation. Raman was surprised by that but also felt curious and he accepted it just for fun.
As told by his father Raman accompanied his father to the motivation hall in the evening time. Some people were sitting there and meditating. Raman was very impressed by the atmosphere and followed his father. His father told him how to concentrate and meditate by closing his eyes and taking deep breaths.

Raman's father told Raman that they would go there two times a week in the evening time and practice meditation to enhance their mental faculties. In the beginning, Raman did not feel anything new but after doing it 4-5 times he started to feel a change in him and he thought that when his father was so concerned about his studies and career then he must devote more time to studies.

After some time his father found a lot of change in him as Raman reduced many outside activities and started to devote more time to his studies.

In the annual examination of class XI Raman scored very good marks around 94% and his parents were very happy with the improvement in his score and hoped that he would do better in the class XII exams.

This is my entry for the story writing contest.

A very good story stressing the need of meditation for a student. The author has tried to link the story with the image given for the competition.

However, I must state that Raman earlier did not indulge himself in any destructive activities, he was only interested in outdoor activities like sports. We can easily assume that after joining meditation, his outdoor activities got reduced as his study time increased.

Swami Vivekananda would feel bad if he came to know about Raman, because the great sage advised us to play football even leaving aside recitation of the Geeta.

You are very right. For Raman it was easier to adopt meditation as a tool to focus and concentrate. He was not having any bad habit and simply was not able to manage time for studies.
    Knowledge is power.

A good piece of write-up. Meditation helps us a lot in concentrating and focusing on a particular task at hand. Meditation makes our mind calm and we can think in the right direction. So many people use meditation as a tool for a stable mind. A person who performs meditation will have a good thinking capacity and think in the right direction.
In my opinion, 80% is not a bad mark and it was complicated during our study times to get even 60%.
Meditation will help individuals perform better even in sports and games. Their soft skills will also improve. In an organisation where I served, the company arranged meditation classes for some senior executives with a motto to improve the decision-making abilities of the individual. The management's decision helped the individuals in their performance.

The content of the story is marvellous highlighting the importance of the meditation. The meditation is the vital tool to make the neves relaxed. It would definitely strengthen the mental health and ultimately we can have enhanced analytical abilities with the indulgence of such a practice.
The jobs already in hands can be accomplished with the high degree of perfectness if we practice meditation. Raman ultimately realised his top most task ie the study curtailing other activities. His brilliant performance was due to his single minded devotion.
