Yes, we must take every step to protect the environment. The plastic being hazardous to the environment must be banned from from its usage as far as possible. In our country, the people need to be educated regarding its adverse effects. I don't say that the people are not aware of its side effects but still a wide campaign is essential to make the mass aware of the possible dangers if thrown in the streets due to their ignorance and the same is consumed by the pet animals causing the matured deaths of the innocent animals. We have witnessed many a time when the drainage system has clogged up with the presence of the plastic in the water stream.
Hence a wide publicity needs to taken to arrest its indiscriminate usages.

Plastic waste is a big hazard and is to be reduced at any cost. People who are concerned for the environment generally avoid using plastic products until it becomes a compulsion of a sort. There are many occasions and situations in which we can avoid using plastic. For example if we take a bag with us for shopping then we need not to bring the various items in plastic bags. Thin plastic bags are not biodegradable and they are the main cause of environmental degradation today.
Maintaining environment is not one person's job. It requires cooperation from everyone and the whole society has to contribute in this respect.
Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Stop using plastic carry bags for bringing vegetables and other household food items. That will reduce the consumption of plastic bags to a large extent. In earlier days, people used to carry cloth bags from the house and used them to carry these items. Slowly people got accustomed to using these plastic bags. Now, some awareness is coming and people started using clothing bags.
DRDO discovered a type of plastic that is biodegradable and some industries started manufacturing those bags. They should become more popular and all should use them instead of normal plastic bags. Trees should be allowed to grow and we should see that fresh air will come from these trees so that we will not have any pollution.
Using and throwing items made of plastic is very dangerous. We should stop manufacturing such items and items made with metals, clay, paper or cloth should be used.
There are many other activities we undertake which are helping the pollution to expand. We should stop such activities and see that we all protect this environment.

Plastics are introduced by ourselves and complain about the environment also by ourselves. So the entire responsibility is in our, that is consumers' hands only. In those days we used to carry cloth bags for vegetables, groceries and metal vessels for coffee/sambar, etc., Tiffin, flowers were packed in banana leaves, and grocery items were packed in newspapers. But we, that is one among us only planned to earn, introduced the usage of plastic bags replacing the entire packing systems mentioned above. As it makes consumers so convenient from carrying bags/vessels etc., we have become addicted to plastics. The major problem of such pollution is our throwing the waste plastic items openly in dustbins which create polluted smoke when set afire through the lighted cigarettes. Further, it creates problems for cows and bullocks roaming on the roadside by eating the plastics.
In Tea-coffee stalls, previously served in glass tumblers and by saying not hygienic they started issuing in wax-coated paper cups or plastic cups. In North India, they introduced the supply of tea/coffee in mud pots. Due to some politics, that is also criticized. Now recently in Madurai, one prominent vendor introduced cups made of biscuits to supply tea or coffee and somehow got familiarized now.
So, It is not good to expect the prevention of plastics from authorities or the Government but is in our hands to stop using plastics. We have to carry baskets/cloth bags/vessels while going to market.
