Looking for a good book to read- your suggestions please.

I am looking for a good book to read. Any suggestions? Please suggest me any book that you really enjoyed lately, and also mention why did you like it?

You have not mentioned the course or exam or the purpose of studying a particular book so your question becomes a general one and if you meant so then I will try to answer it in general terms including the text books.
For school textbooks I will suggest to go through NCERT books which are quite authentic in their content. For college textbooks one can access the university online/offline facility and select the books for a particular course.
Coming to the general books, frankly speaking, it is an ocean from which one has to select depending on one's interest and choice.
For example for motivation, inspiration, and encouragement in life I will suggest a few as -
Awaken the Giant Within, As a Man Thinketh, The Greatest Salesman in the World, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff, The Power of Positive Thinking, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Life Worth Living by Miroslav Volf, Matthew Croasmun and Ryan McAnnally-Linz, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy, and Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown.
There are many other categories like science fiction, historical books, socio-political books, romantic novels, fictions, books, crime and detective books etc. If you mention a particular category then we can suggest books in a more focused way.

What and why you should/ may read, I think, depends on individual interests and tastes. It has been said that reading a book that does not interest you can even end up as a total aversion to reading. So, calling for suggestions is fine, but the final selection must be yours.

As I welcome you to this portal, I suggest you read and understand the guidelines and points mentioned in the comprehensive guide to new members. You may also go through this update on our policies. Just browse through different sections to get an idea as to which type of content we expect. All the best!

Reading is a good habit and we should daily spend some time reading some good material. Nowadays we have the facility of the Internet and we can search for various books on each subject and we can read them. There are some blogs on the subject we are interested and we can go through such blogs also.
Your question is very general. What are the topics you are looking for? Are you talking about academic-related books? Are you talking about books that are useful for general personality development?
I suggest a book written by Shiv Khera. The title of the book is 'You Can Win". This is a book which helps us in finding out various ways and means to attain success in our lives. You can learn to do the right things for the right reasons at the right time. This book will help people to establish a good professional life and to enjoy their achievements. This book will help individuals to develop a positive attitude. A very well-written book that is easy to understand.

Topic and subject for reading is a personal taste and choice.

However most of the well established and accomplished writers and creative talents would have gone though the heritage classic of the country or region they come from or live. That forms the basic and basis for them to take off, and will become useful in their multifaced life .

In that regard I would suggest you to read the heritage classics of our country-The Mahabharata and Ramayana. You may start with the abridged prose versions or with any suitable translations in a language comfortable to you.
In case you had already read the abridged versions, try to read a verse by verse translation with original and translation face to face or side by side.

If the above is not immediately possible at least read Bhagavad Gita in the same way as suggested.

Reading ,any sort, any time is always worth. But try to go beyond the WhatsApp and Facebook post materials. If possible join a good public library nearby, if available. That will really broaden your choice and pen a new world of 'bookdom'.
    Wish you a happy reading.

Reading a book is always fascinating in my opinion and the habit of reading will be a stress relief as well. Whenever I want to relax my first choice is to take a book to read of my choice. During the Covid pandemic, I used to read as much as possible and if books were not available, I read through Amazon Kindle. From my childhood, I have been interested in R.K.Narayan's books and my favorite is his Malgudi days and the Vendor of sweets. Recently, I came across to read a book called, "Life is what you make it" by Preeti Shenoy and it is inspiring as such, I suppose.
It, however, is up to you to choose what type or genre you would like to read. As said by Mr. Venkiteswaran, it is your taste of interest to read a good book.

My suggestion in this connection is to use the public library or lending library in your area initially. In Government public libraries we can get many varieties of books in all languages and all topics. With this definitely, we can enrich our knowledge and book reading habit. There only we can see the books/magazines/newspapers in varieties which we never heard or seen before.

Ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. N. Annadurai told once that one can see the entire world by sitting in one place when he read a book.

Another Tamil Writer who wrote Stories based on historical events, once told that by reading a book with involvement one can imagine himself/herself as the character of the fiction. Also he told he /she can imagine that he/she enjoying the location described in the fiction.

Books are our great friends. A good book is not only a nice pass time but also a source of a lot of knowledge and information.
Anyone who wants to go through some good books can first try some classical books like Panchtantra, Mahabharat, Treasure Island, Gulliver's Travel, Time Machine etc. After that one can switch to fictions, romance, and other categories.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

It is a nice idea to read different books at least in the area of one's choice. Knowledge never ends and we should not remain under the false impression that we have mastered in that domain. While searching for so many books of a particular subject might be time consuming process and this might be the reason for the cessation of reading habits.
The best way could be to approach a public library containing a large stock of the books of the different segments such as the music, mathematics, painting, drama, novels written in the different languages matching the interests of the concerned readers.
In that situation, readers need not move somewhere else for looking for the books of their interest. Moreover, it could save the time of the readers by not wandering through place to place in search of the appropriate books.

This is one of the toughest questions to answer. Different persons have different priorities/choices. Some read motivational bbooks, some people read books on investment, some may be interested in competitive examinations related books. People may like novels, short stories, thrillers, history, geography, many things. Without knowing the preference of the member who has raised this thread, this question can't be answered to his/her satisfaction.

Presently, I am re-reading Sun Tzu's The Art of War(English translation). Is the respected member (who has raised this thread) interested to read this highly analytical and philosophical theory on warfare? If he/she is interested, I can forward the online version of this very ancient book which is extremely popular to a section of people.

In my personal opinion, there is nothing like a good book or a bad book. One should read books depending upon their interest. The reader himself/herself will realize the worth of each book. Go on reading randomly and decide which made a good impression.

After a long time, I fully agree with KVRR Sir. A person has to read randomly in his/her areas of interest. There is nothing like good book or bad book.

Further, to develop interest on a particularr subject, a person must read books on that subject.

That is true. One should judge the book on his own after reading it. One can't judge a book by its cover. They should read and understand. As mentioned by other authors reading a book randomly and taking good from it will be a good trait. Generally, the books of our choice will be from the books from the subject we like. If I see any paper related to chemistry somehow I try to read that. Similarly many people may do the same.
