Sustained efforts will yield the desired results

These days are competitive. All the students should concentrate on their studies and put 100% effort into their education. Then only they will have better chances to get seats in reputed institutes for higher education. Just working hard during the examinations and getting some good marks may not help them. They should make sustained efforts. Then only they can get the desired results.
Just getting marks may ensure the degree. Unless otherwise, the efforts are sustained for a long time and learning the subject, the chances of yielding the desired results are very difficult, I feel.
I like to know the views of all the other members.

It is true that tough competition is prevailing today and students have to work hard and keep it continued. In such a situation making a career is a herculean task. Due to population explosion we have a large number of people pursuing studies but limited opportunities are there for making a career. Only the top scoring students are able to get good jobs and all the others are going for small jobs.
    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

The old adage" Success is ninety-nine percent perspiration and one percent inspiration" still holds good.
There are many other proverbs and sayings emphasizing sustained efforts for success. Some of the quotes are below:
"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."
"Successful people are not gifted; they just work hard, then succeed on purpose."
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."

That is what Swami Vivekananda hailed to the youth of this country: Utthishtatha, Jaagrata, Praapyavarannibodhata"- Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.

I think that studying the subjects is not enough but the students need to ensure that they have rightly understood the fundamentals of the core elements of each subject. Once the fundamentals are understood, they will not forget the lessons already learned.

While comparing the old days to the present one, we can see that there has been a sea change in the course of the pattern of questions- be it Physics or Mathematics for the students appearing in the IIT. Unless the fundamentals are not understood, it would be difficult for the students to sail through the same. Moreover, the questions set in each paper of a competitive examination call for the clarity of the fundamentals.

The students need to understand the present situation and the steps that need to be taken by them accordingly.

Whether a student or worker or professional this is true for everyone that continuous efforts and actions are required for the growth and development. If I had done good work yesterday does not mean that today I will take rest. Today also I must repeat the same performance. We have to be active every day and then only it can be said as a sustained effort.
Some people are able to do work on a sustained basis and that is the reason for their growth and progress in the long run.

    Knowledge is power.

To step into the success path, every one especially students, should keep themselves with positive mentality.
My mother used to tell us the story of Robert Bruce. King Robert Bruce was continuously failed in war and at the end of one battle he hide himself in a cave. When he was sitting on a stone by thinking of committing suicide on his continuous failures, he saw a spider in the corner forming its nest. It was trying and trying to form its nest in spite of many failures but finally it succeeded in the forming nest. By seeing this the king formed his mind to fight again by the seeing the effort of spider, and finally succeeded.
I read in one Christianity handbook as " Even the words considered as negative turned into positive as below:
    1. The word 'NO' can be transformed as 'Next Opportunity'.
    2. The word 'END' can be transformed as ' Effort Never Dies'
    3. The word 'FAIL' can be transformed as ' First Attempt In Learning'.
