Are the guidelines on coaching centres good to students? What will be overall impact-Discuss

The other day Education Ministry has come up with some guidelines to coaching centres, among which a particular one is very important and can have a good impact. That is, study centres cannot enroll students below 16 years of age. They cannot come up with misleading offers and promises like guaranteeing success and ranks.

Other guidelines are regarding registration of coaching centres, minimum qualification of tutors, advertisements, refund ,infrastructure, timings, facilities etc. There are mention of penalties for breach.
Members please make a thorough discussion on this subject, on all matters involved and especially the threshold age of enrolment.

In my opinion, it is a very good move. In the guise of coaching, these coaching centres are getting 5th class to 8th class students also to coaching for IIT. These children even don't know what is IIT. They will be taught subjects from higher classes and make them to get mentioned. So I welcome the move that students less than 16 years of age should not be admitted to coaching centres.
These days we are seeing many coaching centres which are trying to attract parents of the students with very big advertisements and they are collecting very heavy fees. There are no proper guidelines and they advertise many unreal things also. Such practices should not be encouraged.
Tutors in these centres only threaten the students and make them read the notes given in their colleges but never try to explain them. So it is good that the government has decided on the qualification requirements for tutors in these centres.
Overall this move will have a positive impact on the students/

There are a large number of coaching centres in our country and some of them are not only taking good amount of fees for coaching but are also well reputed for their coaching. But all that looks on the surface is not so bright beneath as there had been many unfortunate incidents and many students have taken fatal actions and many suicides had been reported in the past.
Today we are living in a very competitive world and students are much stressed while preparing for their careers. In that situation those who can afford coaching courses go to it with high ambitions and expectations. If that is not met, they become depressed and worried for their future.
The action taken by the government is very logical at the present juncture because some of the coaching centers may not be doing their jobs in the correct perspective and are only interested to make money while this demand for coaching is increasing in our country.

The Ministry has started to crack the whip on mushrooming coaching centres which have been destroying the happy and carefree student life by promising success in various entrance examinations ultimately resulting in material success in life (read: a fat salary package).

But I think the sincere effort of the Ministry will not bear fruit unless the guardians understand the true meaning of education. The guardians must give an environment to their sons and daughters where they can study without a terrible burden to perform. The students must inculcate their areas of interest without competing with fellow students.

If this is not possible, the efforts to reform by the Ministry of Education may not be fully successful.

I think it is a good move as far as registration and other guidelines like qualification of tutors, basic infrastructures, advertisements etc. is concerned. But I have a doubt whether coaching centers are limited to entrance exams or for higher studies only. We do have coaching centers for upper primary classes too and so the restriction of 16 years as the age limit appears to be impractical. As has been mentioned in the order, we know that coaching centers have been mushrooming across the nation and has become a good business prospective for many. The initiative by the Ministry of Education to regulate and control coaching centers is a welcome step.

It is very important to ensure that the functioning of all coaching centers is strictly monitored by the authorities. Passing orders or issuing guidelines is not going to help. Apart from banning advertisements that are meant to lure students and parents, the standard of coaching and the actual results also need to be effectively followed by the authorities. It is a known fact that students are put under immense pressure by the parents, schools and coaching centers to bring up better results. A regular student who has to attend classes will be under stress when he has to attend coaching classes after regular classes and on holidays too because he does not find much time to relax. This will surely affect one's mental health and that is, no doubt, a reason for worry.

The order outlining the guidelines is fine, but the effect will be visible only if they are put into practice strictly.

If there is some authority to look after the activities of the coaching centres, it appears to be a positive sign. Presently we can see the mushrooming of the coaching centres violating all the essential norms to be followed in such a business and the coaching centres are doing their business briskly.
We can see a lot of the coaching centres around us promising a lot and even the guarantee of the success of the entrants but they need to pay a huge sum of money by way of registration fees and other charges. Once they are enrolled in such centres, the reality is otherwise. If such centres are under the close scrutiny of the ministry, it would be a good move.
