What is design thinking, and how do we apply it?

Design thinking is a human-centered problem-solving approach that encourages creativity and innovation. It involves several essential stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, and implement. In the empathize phase, the focus is on understanding the problem from the perspective of end-users. Subsequently, the define stage aims to clearly articulate the problem.

The ideate step develops creative solutions, and the prototype stage creates tangible representations for testing. The test stage collects feedback to refine the answers. Finally, the chosen solution is implemented on a larger scale. Design thinking is a flexible and iterative process that fosters innovation, collaboration, and user-centric problem-solving across different domains.

MIT Vishwaprayag University, a pioneering institution, fully recognizes the value of design thinking. The university places a strong emphasis on integrating this human-centered problem-solving approach into its educational framework. With a commitment to fostering creativity and innovation, MIT Vishwaprayag University ensures that students are well-equipped with the skills and mindset required for real-world problem-solving.

Whether a service industry or a manufacturing industry, the success of the industry depends on customer satisfaction. So how to make the customer happy is the question faced. Many methodologies were developed like Six Sigma etc earlier. Design thinking is also a step in this direction only. No school or college talks about such methods and explains to the students the importance of these techniques. It is a positive approach to introduce these techniques and see how the learning practices can be redefined so that the students will enjoy their learning times. At the same time, they can start thinking about applying the taught techniques in solving real-life situations.

Design thinking provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. This methodology is very useful to tackle complex problems which are not completely understood. Understanding the needs of the customer, defining them, creating ideas by brainstorming, creating solutions and testing them are the various stages involved in this design thinking process.

To make the customer happy is the prime objective of an industry. It has become all the more important in the present time since every industry is struggling hard to augment the customer base.
What the author has discussed such as the design thinking process is the most relevant aspect to attract the customers for the consumption of their end products. Though it looks simple but not so easy to please the customers unless a continuous effort is made by the company.
Keeping in view of raising the satisfaction quotient of the customer base, the company should establish a department which will employ the survey techniques to know what are the factors they would like to observe in the finished products and they should work on this line so as to remain ahead of the other competitors.

The author has introduced the topic of design thinking in this post arousing a lot of curiosity. As I understand, design thinking is a holistic approach to understand a particular subject and then transform it to the practical application in the industry or any related organisation. A proper planning for doing a work or executing a project, it is necessary that complete structure of the elements to be used is known before hand. At times it might require an innovative approach to the problem as the established methods may not be competitive or not result in desired way.
Today we are living in a very competitive world and innovative and out of box approach is required for becoming successful in any area.
Design thinking is one part of that holistic approach for becoming success in our endeavours.

    Knowledge is power.
