Theoretical knowledge has no significance if it is not strengthened with the practicals.
Long back in 1970 when I was doing my PG then we studied a lot of theoretical Physics. Subsequently I got a job in a highly sophisticated laboratory and it took me about 6 months to understand the various practical things which were very essential for discharging my duties in that capacity. I went through a great inconvenience as well as humiliation during that learning period because I was doing silly mistakes while learning and doing my work and was so concious of my seniors and always fearing as what would be their opinion about me.
Today situation is changed much and I do not think that there is so much gap between the theoretical learning and workplace environment but it is a fact that a student must learn the practical aspects during the study phase and that only will ensure that he or she would not cut a sorry figure later at the workplace.
Knowledge is power.

That is very true. Practical knowledge is very important. That is why the education department authorities are making practical knowledge mandatory. On-job training, apprenticeships, internships etc are becoming a part of the curriculum. Academic knowledge is useful when you apply the same in real life. However many students never understand where to apply their knowledge in practice. So students should have the skills required. So these days many organisations are selecting candidates for jobs based on their skills and practical experience. So just acquiring a degree is of no use. They should develop some skills that will make them perform their duty effectively.
Many organisations appoint trainees and train them in the areas they require. Some organisations take candidates having the required skills.
So I think that giving importance to experience is better than higher education. All students should acquire skills while doing their UG or PG by doing part-time courses.

Students should never forget the practical aspects while they are learning the theoretical concepts. The theoretical principles cannot be remembered for long unless they carry out practicals connected with the theoretical framework. While undergoing through the practical phase, we might be erring somewhere due to sheer confusion and we have the opportunities of correcting the same- either by ourselves or with the consultation of the concerned professors of the subject. Hence committing mistakes offers us the ways to improve ourselves and under that situation, it strengthens our theoretical knowledge.
Hence, in no way the students should overlook the practical portions connected with the theoretical ones in order to have the sound base of the practical knowledge.

I fully endorse the view that practical knowledge is very essential in our lives. Nowadays a good emphasis is being given in educational institutes on this aspect.
In our school days we had Home Science as a subject and we had good number of practicals in that. We had cooking practicals and we learned basic cooking during those exposures. Being a housewife I am having the benefit of those learnings in my routine life. Anything learnt in the student life is a lifetime learning and from that perspective practicals are having a great importance in our lives as well as in our professional careers.
Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Theoretical or bookish knowledge is essential to have a basic idea on the work. But practical one is makes him or her to adopt novel ideas in their work. This experience gains further to him/her for better result.
An engineering graduate, I have seen, in Ahmedabad, helped his father who is a potter with his practical idea from his bookish knowledge. The father used to rotate the wheel by his hand to move round and make the clay formed into a pot etc., This boy simply arranged a system by keeping a bicycle linked with the wheel and move the wheel by pedaling the cycle with needy speed.
