I have been a teacher for the last 27 years. I provide tuition for Biology for Higher secondary level and mathematics up to secondary level. There are many students whose parents can't afford tuition fees but these students need tuition to clear their doubts and concepts. I always provide free tuition for these types of students. It gives satisfaction.
When I was studying, I also provided free tuition for the students of my Mohalla free of charge. Teaching is my passion and I love teaching.
Honesty is the best policy.

When I was a research scholar at Andhra University, I used to take tuition to intermediate and Matriculation ( SSC) students. In our street, there was a poor family in which the father was the only earning member and was not able to admit his son into a good school. That boy was average and he wanted me to teach mathematics to him. He was intermediate at that time. I taught him mathematics for two years without taking any money from him. He got good marks and did a B.Sc. B.Ed and became a government teacher and his family is very well off now. Now and then he contacts me.
We may be making many donations to many people. Giving education to a person is also a kind of donation and that will give us more wisdom. My grandfather who was a teacher used to teach many students in a village and never expected any money from them.

Certainly. I took classes for higher secondary to MBA level to the needy students and I did not asked any fees for my teachings from any of them. There is a phrase in Tamil, ' Karkai Nandre karkai nandre, pichai pukinum karkai nandre' which means the education should be availed from the others even by begging. It does not mean that one should beg for education but the stress has given for education. On no account one should not miss education.

I did not have any such opportunity but some of the friends of my younger sister who came to my house when I was doing my UG degree and they used to ask me some questions which I helped them to solve. They were not from the poor families and belonged to middle class. Sometimes they showed me their notes also and asked me how to improve further. Whenever they came to our house I tried to help them.

When I was in college I used to help our neighbour's son who was in Upper primary classes. But my neighbour told me that if the boy felt that I am helping him free of cost, he will not take it seriously and will not obey and follow seriously. So they told me to consider it as tuition and gave me some small amount at their own discretion.
On another occasion, I was engaged to teach in a tutorial by request of a known person. I taught there for two months. But he did not pay me any amount contrary to what he promised at the beginning. He used to say some escapist reason. So I left it after two and half months. That may be considered as free coaching.
During my degree course, I was helping a few of my classmates in a joint study class we held in one of the classmates' home. Non of those classmates had passed any qualifying exam at first chance before that. But with my coaching help, they all passed all the exams in the very first chance with respectable level of marks.

It is nice to observe that there are many members who have given free coaching to some students not necessarily the poor students. It also feels good to see that they can provide free coaching in some situations.

When I was a student, I never gave tuition, although I had some offers. However, after coming to Delhi, I used to give tuition. Frankly speaking, I earned a lot by charging fees on an hourly basis. These tuitions also helped me to know the roads of Delhi and to speak Hindi fluently. I also started understanding Delhi-waala culture thanks to my students and their family members.
Almost all of my students gave me immense mental satisfaction when their Board results were published.
In this connection, I must say that I did give free tuition and taught with very nominal charges to two or three students. Now, I can say that there was no dearth of sincerity from my side in their case and their performance also improved substantially in the Board examinations in my subjects.

Certainly, I opt to take free classes if I can. When I was in high school (Lady Sivaswamy Girls High School in Mylapore, Chennai), I helped some primary students who studied in 4th and 5th grade in the nearby government elementary school teaching mathematics and English after my school hours. I should thank my father who allowed me for such a noble task. Those days, we girls were not allowed to go out anywhere except to go to school. But, my father, a nice person educated my sister and me despite obstacles raised from his paternal side. I am proud to say that I am the first female graduate in my family, which enabled me to teach my kids on my own without any tuition offered to them.
I am still interested in teaching poor students if required. Long back, while I was a member of an NGO, I used to take classes for government school students staying in an orphanage.

My elder daughter-in-law is a PG in Pharmacy. She is very active in social service activities and she is a member of an NGO and works very actively. She gives us some lessons, that are to be recorded and sent back to her. She will send those audios to blind students so that they will hear the lessons and prepare for their examinations. In our house, all members including my wife will do this so that some blind students will get help. My daughter-in-law was working as a teacher under the Teach for India programme. She was going to a government school in a backward area around Hyderabad and teaching there. It is a free service and she used to spend her money on commuting also.

While studying in B.Sc level during the summer vacation,,I used to stay at my village. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of students struggling hard to understand the concept in their science subjects including Mathematics. They need a little push to understand the basics of the chapters.
At least in the Mathematics, there are several processes to be applied while working out a solution and one can proceed confidently provided the basics are understood clearly. I started taking a batch of eight students in the morning session for helping them in the Mathematics for an hour without a charge. This definitely helped then a lot to get a full concept how the sums can be worked out with ease.
The batch of mine ultimately scored high marks in both Science and Mathematics during their secondary level examination. Still they are very much satisfied with my efforts and all are well placed in the jobs. At least, such type of jobs provide a sense of satisfaction.

I taught a middle school student who was the son of my paternal family's cook. I was a college student at that time. It felt good. I had another stint of teaching English to a twelfth-class student, my domestic helper's son, after I started staying in Delhi post-marriage.
In both cases, I never thought of charging even a penny. Both the experiences of teaching for free gave me immense satisfaction. In my opinion, one should offer free tuition to the students from deprived sections. It's a service towards a noble cause.
