More women should get opportunities to work outside the household

Thanks to the women's lib movement and measures taken by various governments across the globe, the condition of women and their participation in jobs outside the household increased and today they are a part of the workforce in various organisations, companies, industries, and small business entities, NGOs, self help groups, women co-operatives etc.
But if we see their percentage as compared to the total workforce then it is still low and far from the gender equality considerations.
As per the data from International Labour Organization and U.N. Population Division the percentage of women workforce out of the total workforce around the world varies from country to country and ranges from 8% to 53%. The global average is about 40%.
In India we have about 24% of total workforce as women. Quite below the global average.
Don't you think that a lot of efforts are required to increase that number in our country? What measures do you suggest that government should take for this?

Already 30% of reservations are in force in almost all areas. These reservations are applicable in all educational institutions and jobs. In almost all the areas we are women. I think in the coming days we will see a much greater increase in the percentage of women in all areas.
Karnataka and Telangana governments encourage ladies to go out by giving free bus travel across their states. Already we are seeing many ladies travelling in buses in these two states.
We see mainly less representation of females in politics and defence services. No assembly or parliament does not have enough female representatives. All political parties should see a better representation of ladies in Politics.
I think that enough opportunities should be provided to all ladies. They should be an encouragement to ladies so that they will be active in all areas.

There is an illusion is prevailing among us that the women are not sufficiently employed and deployed in household work only. This is not correct according to me as I am seeing many articles in Tamil Magazines that many women even in small cities are well doing their services outside the household works. In Salem, Tamil Nadu a single lady starts preparing and selling the food products from multigrain and sitting in a high chair. (ref.: www.gowrishop.com)
But there is no equivalent to woman in keeping the house as well maintained. I have seen the houses with less clean where employed women comparing to household ladies houses.
But totally speaking women should come up as their brain should be utilized for our nation's growth.

Ramachandran Sir, you are very right that some women are enterprising and are engaging themselves in self employment but their percentage considering total workforce is low.
Moreover, many women are doing jobs outside as well as taking care of household.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Let us go to the grassroots of the issue raised by the author. Such an attitude is attributable to the low level of mentality of the families at least in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and many states where enough encouragement is not provided to the girls in their studies. The parents even maintain double standards in relation to the provision of educational facilities for their own children. The male children are admitted to the public schools for a better education system but such a provision is not for the girl children. They are receiving their education in the government schools.

This speaks of the mentality of the head of the family of some of the states. However, in other states such as Kerala, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu the situation is definitely better where there is no such demarcation.

Charity begins at home is the right proverb in this context. We need to do a lot of homework on how best we can improve the standards of the women folk. We need to provide them with a decent education and motivate them on how best they can show their worth in the different areas of their careers. Though the percentage of the jobs outside home has increased significantly from the last ten years but still the figures are not up to the mark.

There was a time when very few women were working outside their homes. Traditionally they were supposed to take care of the household and the children. With the advent of modernisation and cultural changes in the society many women got an opportunity to work outside and some of them took it with interest and desire to compete with men. Since then their number is increasing day by day and they are undertaking all those qualifications which were earlier considered as the monopoly of men.
It is true that in some part of the world the percentage of women workforce is still very low around only 10% while in developed countries it has gone above 50%.
This ratio cannot go up overnight as it is a gradual process and I am sure in coming times the women workforce percentage is definitely going to increase.

    Knowledge is power.
