What measures can be taken to bring the poor people out of the clutches of poverty?

We have a large resource base in our country and good number of activities ranging from agriculture to manufacturing where people can be accommodated and engaged in some jobs for their livelihood. Still there are a good number of poor people around who are below the poverty line and struggling to earn their bread and butter.
It is mentioned in some of the official reports that number of poor people in our country have come down significantly as compared to earlier years. A United Nations report says that a total of 415 million people moved out of poverty in India in 15 years from 2005/2006 to 2019/2021. But still about 200 million (figure might differ from agency to agency but the number is high) people are poor in our country.
What measures, in your opinion, can be taken to bring these people out of the clutches of poverty?

It is perfect to note that 415 million people came out of poverty in our country during the last 15 years. It is a good indication that our country is progressing.
Poverty eradication is a very important issue in our country. Giving free food and shelter is not the answer to poverty eradication. How long and to how many can we provide these free of cost? However, the rulers should see an increase in employment opportunities in the country. Our EX-PM PV Narasimha Rao brought liberalisation policy by saying no to licence Raj. This small act created many job opportunities in our country. Today many young people are earning from IT jobs only.
Wealth creation is important. New industries should come and employment opportunities should increase. Unfortunately, some state governments in India do not recognise this fact and offer freebies to people for votes. Wealth creation is the key to the eradication of poverty.

The problem raised by the author is a valuable issue and the same needs to be tackled by the the different responsible agencies involved to chalk out some concrete solutions for the alleviation of the poverty. It is not that the problem is not known to the different administrative bodies but a systematic process of solving this perennial problem needs to be evolved for the benefit of the common mass.
Freebies offered by the government is definitely not the solution to eradicate the poverty problem. Rather the employment generation is the most important part to take care of the poverty stricken population. Injecting freebies to the people might be a way of garnering votes of the people in favour of the ruling parties, which we are observing currently. The real remedy lies in generating jobs in the different sectors so that the people are gainfully employed apart from the skill development of the youths in the multiple areas so as to be applied to one of them in the event of crisis.

If we go through the poverty data across the world then we will find one common thing that in many countries the number of poor people is decreasing with time. This is a healthy trend and it shows that many governments across the globe are conscious of it and taking some measures for mitigating this challenge.
In our country also many measures are taken by the government to help the poor not only by giving free ration to them but creating job opportunities also in the rural areas through some infrastructure or construction activity and agricultural schemes. Apart from that government also helps the poor people during any natural calamities and provides them free food and shelter till they are able to return to their native place.
One anomaly which needs to be addressed to solve this problem is that in our country there are many people who are highly paid and earning a good amount of money and at the same time there are so many poor people around, searching for small jobs fetching hardly an amount of 300-500 per day.
So until this inequality is addressed by rationalizing the earnings and salaries we can't see much progress in the herculean task of removing poverty.

In Tamil there is a phrase, 'Paathiram arinthu pichchai idu' which means the offer should be made according to the person. This is totally correct according to me. Really all poor people are not poor.

When we traveled Chennai to Amritsar, we halt at New Delhi Station for changing train to Amritsar. By that time we saw an old man who lost one leg begging on the platform. My wife took pity on him and that too it was noon she offered Chapatis and subji, (prepared by her and in good condition only). But we shocked the action done by him, as he throwed out them in the railways and moved further.

On the other day, in Chennai, I was returning home from office. In one bus stop a man with a lady holding a small child in hand asked me for help as he lost his purse and had to go to Avadi, a place nearly at a distance and bus was there from that bus stop. He showed me some identity card also. I took pity on them and by assuming that the child would felt hungry I gave 150 rupees as the bus fare would be more. But to my shock, on the next day I had a direct bus to my house, saw the same couple standing in that bus stop by asking something to some one. Then only I realized that I have been cheated on the previous day.

So, it is need to see the reality and offer our help as really our help is an essential to such needy persons.
