An amazing and powerful tool - 'negotiation'

What are the benefits of negotiation? Have you ever been involved in one? Share your tips on the art of negotiation.

Many times there are differences between the people, between the groups, or between the countries. Sometimes that leads to conflict and confrontation and even ignites a war-like situation between the concerned parties. But there is a tool or technique available by the name of negotiation which is very useful for sorting out the differences and reaching a solution acceptable to both sides.

It is said that negotiation is an art. The people who are negotiating have to sit together and understand the problem in depth and try to offer solutions which are practical and acceptable to the majority of the people present in that negotiation process.

A good negotiation can bring lot of stability and order between the fighting entities and it is necessary that people should go for negotiations as far as possible instead of offending and fighting with each other. What are your thoughts on this? Please share.

Negotiation is a real technique that can be used to sort out our differences with other people. Negotiation can take place between two persons, two familiar or two organisations.
When there is a difference of opinion on a particular aspect with another member, instead of quarrelling with that member, both the parties involved can sit together and discuss and come to a common understanding. This will avoid many conflicts with other people.
These negotiations are very important for the smooth functioning of organisations. The management will always try to cut costs and make more profits. The employees expect good returns for their hard work. Their expectations will be high and management never accepts their demands. In such cases, conflicts develop and unrest will develop in the organisation. Sometimes it will result in strikes also. Such conflict will bring down productivity. If the management and employee unions sit together and conduct negotiations an amicable solution will come without any unwanted developments and productivity loss.

Negotiation is the only way to a resolution and people who opt for it are definitely the gainers in their lives because they can avoid the unnecessary conflicts and confrontations.
Today there are so many conflicts going in the world and fighting is going on between some countries as both sides are adamant on their stands. If the parties are not ready to negotiate then solution for the conflict cannot be obtained.
Intelligent people never go for offences and confrontations and tackle the problems by using negotiations.
Negotiation is a powerful tool if used properly in the hands of the parties involved in the conflict.

    Knowledge is power.

It is a wonderful topic how best we can patch up the differences between the two parties- be it between the friends or the management versus the worker or patching up the differences between the husbands and wives.
The negotiator must be wise to see all the aspects relating to the differences between the two parties and is not that the negotiator rejects the points outright raised by the other parties. Patience is , offer course, the vital tool to resolve the existing differences and the negotiator should patiently hear the points of the aggravated party. May be with the convincing capacity and a little compromise of some of points, there could the final consensus.
In that way the negotiator is likely to gain and they would have the smooth relationship. A slight resilience in the approach woks wonder in patching up the strained relations.

Nobody has any doubt that negotiation is a very useful and effective tool to solve disputes. But to make it successful, two or all parties (where more than two parties are involved) must have the will and power to 'give & take' necessary for successful negotiation. But in many cases, we see that one party/some parties feel that negotiation is to get everything from the other side across the negotiating table, but not to concede anything. In international diplomacy, there are many such cases. India-Pakistan negotiations can be quoted as an example where the Pakistani side wants everything without giving anything.

Such negotiations are bound to fail.
