What was the subject that you considered very tough during your schooling or college days?

There are so many subjects which are taught to the students in the schools. These subjects are categorised under the broad categories like science, maths, arts, and humanities. Later in their college lives students select and opt for certain streams as per their career aspirations.
From the aspect of tougher and easier, there are some subjects which are considered tougher while there are others which are not so tough. It can of course vary from student to student depending on their liking and choice.
What was the subject that you considered very tough during your schooling or college days? Please share your experiences in this regard.

It is a very interesting query from the author's side. During the school and the college days, we all face the challenges in relation to our chosen subjects. I was a student of science stream in my school days and I was having enough interest in chemistry. It all depends on the way how teachers are taking their classes. If they come prepared with the enough homework in the subject, students would be more inclined to the subject. The way of teaching of the chemistry teacher was so different that all of us liked his class sessions. In between the sessions, he introduced a short story or a number of interesting jokes to keep us relaxed. The rest subjects were Physics and Mathematics. The physics teacher during my high school stage was a learned teacher but his classes didn't not create any sensation in the classroom. We had to prepare ourselves and hence the performance of the students was below average for most of them.
Mathematics teacher was a hard taskmaster and his persuasive skills in the subject nourished the basics of the subject and a result the minimum score of a low performer was more than 70%.
At the later stage in the college, I developed more interest in Mathematics and other two subjects took the back seats. Any way I managed to pass B.Sc with a high second division.

When I was in my high school I felt that English and Biology were the tough subjects though I had interest in both. I did not feel any difficulty in Maths or Hindi or Science (other than Biology).
Later when I joined my UG course, Maths became a challenge and became so tough that I had to spend a lot of time in that and finally I was able to score good marks in that. Unfortunately giving more time in Maths made me less prepared in Physics and Chemistry and I lost marks there. Anyway Maths marks helped me to get an average good score.
When I was finalising a subject for my PG degree then I from my past experience ignored Maths and Chemistry and settled for Physics. But I found that it was a difficult subject but somehow I managed to get good marks.
My observation is that when a subject appears tough to us then we have to do a lot of hard work in that.

During my college and university days, I found all types of mathematical analyses (differential equation, the theory of integral equations, differential geometry; variational calculus, real analysis, functional analysis, harmonic analysis, etc.) very tough.

In school, some chapters of botany (included in biology), some chapters of geography (physical geography) and some chapters of physics were tough for me.

    I was a permanent back-bencher.

During my school studies, I used to feel History was the toughest subject. There is no way other than mugging up the subject and no logic or no formula will be useful to remember. The names of the kings, the period of their rule, the borders of their kingdoms etc. were to be remembered. Our History teacher was very good. He used to take enough pains to explain the subject. So when I joined in intermediate, I got into the science stream. Mathematics, Physics and chemistry were the subjects. Our mathematics teacher was very experienced and took a lot of pains to make us understand the subject. Our chemistry teacher was freshly joined. He used to take a lot of interest in teaching and used to mingle with us and explain the subject with very good examples and models. So I developed a lot of interest towards chemistry and I used to find physics as the most difficult subject among the three. But I used to get good marks in all three subjects.

Let me also share my experience in this matter. For me most of the science subjects and mathematics seemed quite tough and I was inclined to the subjects in arts and humanities stream and finally did my PG in Psychology.

In my school days, Mathematics was one of the toughest and scary subjects. It was interesting when we learnt only the basic numeral system and every concept just superficially. But, when we began to study topics such as theorems, complicated constructions in geometry, difficult equations in algebra, mathematics began one of the scariest subject. One main feature about mathematics is that it is an unpredictable subject as it cannot be memorized. We have to understand the concept to solve problems and no one can help us. We should try hard to understand concepts and solve again and again so we can get a fair idea. Sometime,s we are unable to understand logically due to lack of understanding about its practical applications.

Mathematics was always a hurdle for me during my school days. Algebra and Geometry were the classes that I dreaded the most. May be because my basics in the subject were not proper, efforts by my teachers in school and even tuition teachers could not help me overcome my fear in the subject. I somehow managed to pass all the classes and even my matriculation in the first attempt itself. I still feel that if not for mathematics, I could have passed my school final with a better total.

When I was studying In middle school, English was the toughest subject for me. I always try to get minimum marks in English and then try to get full marks in my favourite subjects like maths, and science. When I was in high school, trigonometry was the toughest topic for me. Due to trigonometry, I choose biology instead of mathematics in higher secondary classes. In higher secondary level Physics was the toughest subject for me.

I want to include the main point that it all depends on the teacher. An excellent teacher can teach a tough subject in the easiest way.

    Honesty is the best policy.

I did my B. Com in the period 1974-77. Then there was a subject named as 'Economic and commercial Geography' in which we have to study the geography of whole world. The volume made us fear to study but the lecturer Mr. Dhayalan, took the class very friendly without making us felt boring and as tough. Mr. Dhayalan was a Gold Medalist in his B. Com as well as M. Com. He showed the world map in a black board where there was no map really. But the place he put on the board by saying 'it is Kazakasthaan' we can see the map in our book with same place as he shown.

For me the social studies was always the difficult subject. Geography and History used to give me a fever and I used to fail in these subjects till I studied it in high school. But then when I opted for science in 11th standard I got rid of it.

But now when I read my kids books I feel it very interesting and feel why I could not focus on it. It's a good subject.

I earlier shared my college time experience in this thread but now I want to add that when I got a job and continued in that then my job demanded me to learn an entirely new subject which I never had studied earlier. So, I thought that it was going to be a difficult task but as it was related to my career growth I had to give time for it and slowly it seemed to be in my grip and the others who did PG or M.Tech. in that subject were talking the topics with me at the same level.
From this I infer that no subject is easy or tough, it is only the attitude, attention, and focus that we give to it that makes it easy or understandable.

It's Natural Science (Botony & Zo-ology) for me during my School days. we had a best teacher for the subject and I was the topper in the school yet it didn't work well with the subject. During my graduation Organic Chemistry was giving a lot of trouble while in PG, there was one subject during second semester by name 'Climatology'.
