Is the intelligence of a student hereditary?

Some students grasp the subject quickly and just by doing a few hours study attain good marks and become academically successful. The general notion about these students is that they are very intelligent. It is true that every student is not so intelligent and some are average while some are even dull in their learning.
What makes a student intelligent? Is it a hereditary trait or acquired during growing up? Please share your views.

A very awesome topic raised by the author wherein he is curious to know whether intelligence is hereditary. Maybe some are fortunate enough to have derived intelligence with their heredity and with a little effort they can grasp a structure within a less time frame.
An average student can come at par with the former categories of the students with a little practice. He needs to improve his concentration. Even after repeated readings of the same text if the student is not able to achieve the desired result, he should not give up the attempts so easily. Without having a negative thought attempt need to be made and continually till the final result is attained.

Intelligence has different definitions. It is very difficult to say one thing as the reason for intelligence. Intelligence includes observing keenly the surroundings and adapting to changes as per the need and also the ability to learn from our experience. There are many studies conducted to find out the role of genetics on the IQ of a person. It was proved that there will be an influence of genetics on the intelligence of the individual. But it is not the only element involved. The environment also will have a lot of impact on the intelligence of an individual, articles are showing that nobody can identify a single gene which is responsible for the intelligence of an individual. Maybe different genes contribute to the total intelligence of an individual and what a single gene contributes may be a very small portion, I understand, still, a lot of research is still going on across the world in this respect.
All the children of a couple may not have the same quantum of intelligence. The combination of these genes may be varying from one to the other causing this difference.

It is said that a good amount of intelligence is inherited by the child from heredity but that is not the end of it. The upbringing and growing up also plays a crucial role. The children who get opportunities to observe and learn a good amount of things during their childhood generally appear more intelligent than others.
So role of parents in getting the children exposed to good children books and constructive games during the early phase of growing up is also an important factor in making them more observant and critical in their approach to problem solving or learning a new thing.

Though it is possible in some cases, we are seeing daily in newspapers many students in the top rank of schools coming from poor families where their parents are doing household works/ rikshaw pulling/flower vendor etc., The intelligence in a student is automatically dwelt in him/herself and as used to tell by our Spiritual Guru, a teacher just brushing up the brain of students and not inserting anything. The major function in the students is attention without diversion. Distortion from family or circumstances should never come into the path of the students and for this parents should be very careful in handling children with more love and affection by not thinking pampering, as many parents are thinking if they show love and affection on them leads to pampering.
In those days my parents though not well educated they used to ask daily in evenings questions (not enquiring just with casual words) like what happened in the school /class today, Whether all teachers have come to the class etc., This makes the children to talk freely with the parents even if any problem faced in the school without hiding or fearing.
Parents or house elders should take them to the nearest libraries, museums and places where from they can enrich knowledge. I used to take our house children and even my relative children to Government Museum, Connemara Public Library in Chennai, Viswesvar iah Institute of Science, Bangalore where from the can gain outer knowledge.
