Defined by society and decided by social media, life is tough

It's tough these days! I am trying to analyze the life of youngsters and think that finding out how it became so tough for youngsters is important for all of us.

Many of us do acknowledge that youngsters find life tough these days and as seniors, sometimes we also become confused about handling the situation. Everything is moving so fast, everywhere there is fierce competition and to stay afloat we have to negotiate tough situations. Let's go back to the childhood for a while to understand the situation. One has to find a good school for the youngster and also a couple of good teachers so that she/he can score good marks to move ahead in the next step. If you are not a good student then you have to face the music. The thing is, the youngster is provided with an imaginary prescription of life where each step is defined clearly. The parents are also in a fix to follow the prescription verbatim because social prestige/status is involved and this cycle continues.

Is it really necessary to become a very good student and is it possible for everybody to become a topper since the schooldays? In reality, it's not possible but most of the parents want their child to be a topper in her/his class. I am sure we discussed many such aspects/topics in ISC and many feel this high expectation is not justified, yet it continues. Maybe somewhere there is an imaginary definition of an ideal life, believe me, I don't know the definition, and everybody is busy following that definition.

Now with the advent of social media, it has become tougher I would say because you have to give regular updates on each of your activities on those platforms and based on that, the quality of your life will be decided. The interesting thing is that society has already defined how life will be and social media is constantly keeping a watch to decide whether you are going in the right direction. In this situation, you have already lost your identity and are quite confused. Isn't it?

Before social media also there was pressure on the students. Pressure from the parents, pressure from the relatives, pressure from the society around, and pressure from the teachers in the school. The stress of performing well was always there. Only difference today is that pressure is increased significantly because of updates to be provided in social media for all the successes however small they are.
Young people or to that matter even the seniors are sharing and updating even the insignificant things in their lives just to get some likes and acknowledgements from the friends and other common people in the public domain.
Recently I got a call from one of my relatives to vote in a contest site for the selection of a cutest kid among the participants from a nursery school. It has become a big activity and all the relatives are being insisted to vote so that the said kid wins it. Since such an early age we are exposing the children to such activities to compete and win.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

The pressure was there earlier also as mentioned by Neeru Bhatt. But the quantum of that pressure increased a lot these days. They expect them to perform very well and expect them to be better than the children in their society so that they will have special recognition. These days people want to show off.
All parents want to post on social media about the success of their children and get more likes and comments. That way they have become more addicted to likes and comments on social media. So they always try to pressure their children for better performance. Sometimes this pressure is so high that the children are committing suicide also.
One should understand the realities and accept them. One should understand the calibre of his/ her child and accordingly, they should compromise. This is a fact.

As I remember life was always a difficult proposition for the young people. The reason is very simple. Young age is the turning point in the life of a person because that is the time when one has to work hard, concentrate in studies, think of making a career, and avoid falling in a bad company. So, to keep a balance in such an atmosphere is not an easy task. Social media has added a new dimension to their lives and they are loaded with some more work now related to social media.
Many of the activities that young people are doing today are not meaningful and are simply a wastage of time.
I think it is time to take a note of these development and parents have to spend time with their children and guide them in a proper path.

    Knowledge is power.

I think in the present time, youngsters remain under the severe stress due to the excess demand of the parents and their well wishers to showcase their best performance. No doubt, they are trying their best to excel well in their studies but the definition of the best is always variable in the eyes of the people.
The excess thinking on the best preparations would ultimately destabilise their minds. In that way, there would be the colossal loss of time and they need to prepare a lot for the forthcoming examination. Every moment is vital during the preparation and they would miss some of the vital points needed to perform better.
What I feel that they are the masteters of their own and once they have chalked out the plan for going ahead, they should not deviate unnecessarily though some modifications might happen due to the flashing of some amazing tips which cropped up in their minds for their splendid performance of the ensuing examinations.
