The legal luminary is no more
Yesterday (On 21st February 2024), we lost the jurist per excellence, Fali Sam Nariman. The great legal luminary was born in Burma (present-day Myanmar on 10th January 1929. Known for his expertise in constitutional law, Fali Nariman argued several landmark cases before the Supreme Court of India. His legal arguments are marked by their clarity, precision, and deep understanding of legal principles. He played a crucial role in shaping constitutional jurisprudence in India, with his opinions often cited and relied upon by various courts of the country.Fali Nariman was also a prolific writer and has authored several books on law and legal history. His writings reflect his deep knowledge and passion for the subject.
His contributions to the legal field have earned him numerous accolades and recognition. Nariman was Additional Solicitor General of India from May 1972 to 25 June 1975, resigning from that post upon the declaration of emergency on 26 June 1975. He was honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan, two of India's highest civilian honors. His exemplary career continues to inspire aspiring lawyers and jurists in India and around the world.
Fali S. Nariman's son, Rohinton Nariman was a former Solicitor General of India and a judge of the Supreme Court of India.
