A much-respected legal luminary is no more. R.I.P. Sir.

I read in a report that Fali Nariman later regretted defending Union Carbide Corporation in the Bhopal gas leak civil liability case. At that time, it excited him to take it up due to ambition and felt he could not just walk out of it once he had taken it up (reference- Times Now news).

The demise of Fali S. Nariman marks an end of an era in Indian Judiciary. The man who should have or could have become a Judge but never became though adjudged as most suitable for the post was undoubtedly one of the most respected lawyers, not only in India but internationally too. An expert in Constitutional law, he has been instrumental in interpreting the Indian Constitution to the benefit of the common man in so many cases. He was a well-known figure in International Arbitration and was a member of many international legal organizations. A legend who balanced the combination of knowledge and wit, his demise is, no doubt, a great loss to the Indian Judiciary. May his soul rest in peace!
