India lost one more legend. Pankaj Udhas is no more.

We have heard some days ago that Ameen Sayani is no more. India has lost one more legend as Pankaj Udhas is no more. He was ill for the last few days. He was 72 years old. He got the Padma Shree award in 2006.

I am fond of listing the Gazals of Pankaj Udhas. I like Chitthi ayi he, Dukh sukh tha ek sabka, Chandi jesa rang, etc. It is heartbreaking news for me and I think for India.

    RIP

People who like hearing Gazals will know about the great singer, Pankaj Udhas. His voice can easily be recognised because of its uniqueness. My boss in my earlier job was a great fan of this singer and he used to sing some of the Gazals sung by Pankaj. That way I am also aware of the speciality of his voice. His albums 'Aahat', 'Mukarar', 'Tarrannum' and 'Mehfil' are very popular even in non-Hindi speaking stats also. It is very sad to know that he died at an early age of 72 years. I pray to God to see that his soul will be rest in peace. Om Shanti.

Along with late Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas has been my favorite ghazal singer. Both of them have now departed. Chitra Singh and Peenaz Masani have completely stopped singing. There is no new ghazal singer on the horizon. There is a very large void in the world of ghazal music. Pakistan is also not producing good ghazal singers after Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali. Sigh!

Pankaj Udhas-ji has 'malmali awaaz'. His voice was just like his ghazal: "Sharab cheez hi aisi hai, na chhodi jaye ....."

    Rest in Peace, Pankaj Udhas-ji!

Ghazal is a lyric sung in a particular fashion very near to classical style. Ghazal listening is a great source of entertainment for the music lovers.
Pankaj Udhas was one of the main Ghazal singers in the last few decades and enthralled the audience world over.
The great Ghazal singer is no more there to spread his sweet voice but will be in our hearts forever.
I pray for the departed soul.

Another void has been created in the Ghazal world. The man with a silky voice, who was instrumental in popularizing ghazals, along with his contemporaries Jagjit Singh and Talat Aziz, has left us for the heavenly abode. His ghazals like 'chitti aayi hein', 'sabko maloom hein mein sharabi hoon', 'halki, halki baarish', 'chandi jaisa rang', 'thodi, thodi piya karo', 'jiye tho jiye kaise' etc. among many others, will keep mesmerizing music lovers across the world. I pay my tributes and respects to the ghazal maestro. May his soul rest in peace!

Long back, I had attended one program in which Pankaj Udhas presented his Ghazal singing talents and it was really very captivating performance. His demise will create a great vacuum in the arena of Ghazal singers and his fans will remember him for long.
    RIP. Om Shanti.
