Are boarding schools better for the development of children?

There are many boarding schools in our country where children can be admitted and where they are brought up in a different environment from their homes and also pursue their classes. Many people believe that these boarding schools help the child to grow up independently and get an education in a calm and serene place where such boarding schools are generally located.

I believe that at the tender age of childhood, parents should take care of their children and should not send them to boarding schools. Only when the student completes SSC/HSC should he or she be sent to hostels or colleges in other places.

What are your thoughts about this? Is it good to send the children out at such a tender age? Are boarding schools better for their development? Please share your views.

As mentioned by the author, I also feel parental care is very important for children during their school studies. These children at that age may not be able to identify good and bad and chances of getting attracted towards unwanted habits will be high. Once they cross their teenage and enter college studies, staying in hostels may become a must and by that time their maturity levels will improve and they will be understanding the world in a better way.
But many rich people in India want to send their children to boarding schools thinking that they will get good education. Those schools may be good also. However such students may not have much affection towards their parents and family members and may become more materialistic. Of course, there may be exemptions.
A poor or middle-class parent can't afford a good boarding school for his/ her child. Only upper middle class and rich people can think of boarding schools.
One of my relatives put his son in a boarding school from 9th class. He got addicted to some unwanted habits and he could not clear his 12th class even.

In the initial years, the kids would be required for parental care since this is the stage when they need of the guidance the most. It is the phase when they cannot decide which path for him would be better. Guidance of the parents make them practical over a time. In association with the parents, they develop maturity and this asset in the long run can prove to be their assets.
Some parents are under the impression that their kids would learn more rapidly the practical life if they are put to boarding schools. Since they would come across friends of different sections and this will help them to understand the situation in a more realistic way.
However, the situation might go beyond control if they are entrapped with a bad company. They might start taking alcohol or narcotics but the parents would discover the same at a very late stage, sometimes this might be an irreversible process.

Let's look at the issue differently. When parents can spend quality time with their children it helps in their upbringing, but if they cannot spend quality time with their children things can go out of control. Parental care is essential for children but some parents do not care for their children. You can imagine what happens to those children who do not enjoy their childhood. For them, a boarding school can help to some extent. A boarding school has its premises and everyone has to maintain discipline, at least in an ideal boarding school, which is essential for the development of children. A disciplined environment can make an unruly child disciplined too unless the disciplinary tactics are too harsh. When the environment at home is not conducive to the development of children, then boarding schools can help. Other than that, day schools are sufficient enough for the natural development of children.

There are many factors in favour of boarding schools as well as against it. I also fully agree with some of the members that in the initial stages that is during the tender age it is better to keep the children in the house and send them to boarding school only once they grow up to HSC stage.
But some parents think otherwise. They feel that boarding school is a great place where all round development of the child is possible which generally they lack in home environment. That is the reason why many parents who can afford send their children to these schools.

I think children need parents for the whole development. In childhood, they can share all the things with their parents but the children cannot share the things with others. In my opinion, the boarding schools are not good for children. We do not know which type of atmosphere children will get at boarding school. If he falls into a bad company his career and future may be destroyed. At that stage, children cannot identify which is good or bad for them. The parents will tell them what is good or bad for them.

So, I think it is not a good decision to admit the children in a boarding school.

    Honesty is the best policy.

According to me, open learning spaces, collaborative learning, and real-world experiences play pivotal roles in the development of children. The dynamic learning environments fostered by open spaces and collaborative approaches encourage critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability.

Real-world experiences, such as internships and community projects, provide practical skills and exposure to diverse perspectives, preparing students for success beyond the classroom. My kids are learning and developing at MIT Vishwaprayag University (MITVPU), where they're learning and growing every day. It's wonderful to see them flourish in an environment that values practical learning and real-world experiences, setting them up for a bright future.

Always there would be some pros and cons for every activity. putting your ward in a Boarding school is no exemption but we have to evaluate the case in a broader perspective. The child has to cope up the latest trends in the competitive field and you should not touch the case in the light of the proper parental care. Today's parents feel that their children won't get adjusted in their grandma's home at their native. We are living in such a world, so these are all minor elements that influence the career of the child.

In fact t, the residential school learning is not a new concept and we have inherited the system from the ancient culture. But such learning has taken new dimensions mixed with marketing. however, the boys who study in Boarding schools have a slighter edge than others as they are subjected to thorough scrutiny and constant monitoring by the teachers.
