Checked and found that keto-diet is not suitable for all

Nowadays I have been hearing a lot about keto-diet. As a foodie, I vehemently oppose any concept which advises me to take less food or prohibits me to take variety of food-items. But, as almost every second person talks highly about this keto-diet, I tried to study a little bit about this new fad, i.e. keto-diet. My research findings are mentioned below.

The ketogenic diet, in short keto-diet, is a low-carbohydrate, high-fat eating approach aimed at inducing a state of ketosis in the body. By drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fats, the body shifts its primary fuel source from glucose to ketones, which are produced by the liver from fatty acids. This metabolic state is believed to offer different health benefits including weight loss, improved blood sugar control and enhanced mental clarity. However, shifting to this keto-diet requires careful planning to ensure adequate nutrient intake while minimizing potential side effects such as the 'keto flu' and/or nutrient deficiencies.

Keto-diet is not suitable for all. The nutritionists advise some people not to go for this keto-diet. Keto-diet is a strict 'no-no' for:

    (a) Individuals with pancreatitis or liver disease: The high fat intake in the keto-diet can aggravate these conditions.

    (b) People with certain genetic disorders: Conditions like carnitine deficiency or fat metabolism disorders may make it unsafe.

    (c) Pregnant or breastfeeding women: The restrictive nature of the keto-diet may not provide adequate nutrients for fetal development or lactation.

    (d) People with eating disorders: The strict rules of the keto-diet may cause disordered eating patterns.

    (e) People with kidney ailments: The high protein intake in some versions of the keto-diet can strain the kidneys, which may be problematic for patients with kidney problems.

    (f) Individuals taking certain medications: Some medications, such as those for diabetes or high blood pressure, may require adjustments in dosage or may interact unfavourably with such diet plan.

After my study, I have decided not to go for suh diet. What about ISC members? Are you planning to shift to keto-diet. Please do so after consulting your physician and a nutritionalist.

This is a very informative post about keto-diet. I have also read about this in the magazines and some health sites but this post has given much more, exhaustive, but concise detail in one place.
There are many methods to control weight and keep a good health and experts believe that food intake is one of the most important thing that is to be managed. Different experts suggest different techniques for it but I do not think that there is something which can guarantee complete positive results in every individual through such prescriptions.
There have been many cases around where people are restricting the food intake but doing a good amount of exercise and then there is weakness and other problems in the body and final results are disappointing.
So adhering to any such technique is to be done cautiously under strict medical supervision.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

People are more cautious about their weight these days. But they want all comforts only in their life. A person who works physically hard will not have any weight problems. In the olden days, ladies used to struggle a lot in the house to perform the household work. These days such physically straining works are not there in the houses.
Many men used to go on foot or a bicycle for their work. So they were consuming many calories and that was making them fit. So they used to eat well and all varieties without any hesitation.
Now all wants to control their health and fitness through controlling their diet. That is where many plans like the Keto diet etc. I also heard about this. My sister followed this for some time. Later she found that it was not helping her. Hence she discontinued the same. I never tried this and I have no intention of trying it also. If we do sufficient exercise I feel we need not control our diet for fitness and health

Nutritionists and health experts advise us for taking certain diets for managing our weight and achieve good health. Some of these plans might be helping people but there is no single plan that can benefit everyone.
I have found many such plans in practice around the globe. Some of these are Mediterranean Diet, DASH Diet, Flexitarian Diet, WW Diet, MIND Diet, Vegetarian Diet, Noom Diet, Mayo Clinic Diet, Ornish Diet etc.
Only experts can tell which type of diet can benefit a particular person. It is a subject that only expert nutritionists can decipher.

    Knowledge is power.

This is really a valuable post for those suffering from diabetes who want to opt for the ketogenic diet to keep in check of their blood - sugar spikes. It was considered as an ideal food for the patients to be taken for their weight loss apart from controlling their sugar. Such a diet has been very popular among the patients but equally be difficult to be implemented by all for the some resons or the other.
Though some side effects as pointed by the author was known to me but he has proceeded with the full details how the patients with the different health issues are affected and this posting would serve as a guideline to them.
Though diabetes is a serious disease calling for sufficient vigils to arrest the sugar spikes but at the same time, no undue stress should be taken while keeping the disorder in check.
Regular exercises, especially after taking the lunch and dinner for at least fifteen minutes, taking salads prior to meals and adequate sleep in the night are the best alternatives to keep the blood sugar under control.

Actually, keto-diet is not completely synonymous with the diet for diabetes patients. People who follow keto-diet usually restrict themselves to 50 grams of carbohydrates daily. To compare, the average well-balanced diabetic diet usually contains 225 grams of carbohydrates.
