This is an interesting post. 29th February is a peculiar day in the sense that it doesn't come every year. From the point of view of calendar making it was added to correct the time which in 4 years had an error of approximately one day.
Interestingly even after that some small error, albeit in other direction, remained and that accumulated to approximately one day in 400 years. So the experts who make calendar thought not to add this one day in the February month after every 400 years to correct for that and the result was that we had only 28 days in the February of year 1600 and year 2000.
So, we will also have only 28 days in February of 2400, 2800, ... and so on.
Coming to the utilisation of this extra day every 4 years in our lives it will definitely be counted because if it were not there my contributions to ISC might had decreased by the number of contributions that I am going to make today to be counted for this month.
That I feel is itself is an extra achievement.

Why just the 29th of February? Every day should be considered as having additional hours beyond the just-passed time to get things done. That is, don't procrastinate! I think the pandemic years have been the biggest eye-opener in this regard. Want to do something? Don't wait for the 'later'. Let every day's 24 hours be special. Revive an old friendship, take up that book you always were going to read, dine at that restaurant you always wanted to go to...just get it done now!

For salaried people like me as well as for the pensioners, an extra day in the month of February is generally not welcome. Such people have to manage an extra day with their salary/pension. Is this good? I think, no.

Partha, you are reminding me of my active service time. Yes, in the month of February many people including me thought that they got the full salary just by working for the 28 days. But they forgot that there are seven months when there are 31 days and the extra 1 day a month for those seven months comes to whopping 7 days. So, on an average everyone got salary for 30 days only.

Yesterday I was discussing this point with one of my friends. He said that he has to work one day extra to get his monthly salary for February. If the 29th day was not there, he might have got his salary yesterday itself, he was mentioning. One way he is correct. An employee will get the same salary even if he works on the 29th also this month.
We have lost 1/4 day for the last three years and that loss is compensated with this additional day, I feel. If you take 4 years as one cycle, the number of days in that cycle will be the same.
As mentioned by Vandana, every day we will be working for a maximum of 10 to 12 hours and another 12 to 14 hours are not very productive. We can think of utilizing some of these hours for work, if there is any requirement.
Coming to the question of plan for this extra day, I have no special plans and the day will pass on like any other day in the year.

Being a house wife everyday is same to me. People who are going for jobs are particular about the days and dates. The first thing in the morning they would remember is what date and day is today. Housewife will also come to know it from the employed ones as they would be demanding or informing their needs accordingly.
It effects me only to the extent of calculating days for payment of milk bill or newspaper bill or other routine payments that we are making every month.
As I am also interested in festivals and undertaking fasts so I often consult the calendar for that purpose.
Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
