Did you ever have a turning point in your life?

In our lives sometimes some incident happens or we start learning something new or we get a novel idea or anything of that nature which changes our lives - a turning point. When I was studying in class IX then I was very weak in English like many other students in my class. The reason was that at that time we did not have English as a subject till we passed class V. This may look unbelievable today but it was like that in those remote schools at that point of time.
My father was in a government job and knew good English as he had to work in English but he did not have time to coach me. I was feeling much uncomfortable with my poor English as everywhere in the society we found that English speaking was a thing that everyone looked with respect and praise.
One day my father told me that if I had a strong will and ready to work hard then learning English was not a difficult thing. He brought one grammar book and one dictionary for me and told me to go through them. In the beginning I was not getting much out of those two fat books but slowly I started to build up a vocabulary and understanding the small sentences that became the ground for my English learning and then I never looked back.
That was a turning point in my life which gave me a lot of confidence and feeling that I could learn English if I was serious about it.
Have you got any such experience of some incident or such thing which became a turning point in your life? Please share your memories.

I think that most of the people have such turning points in their lives. I have heard many people saying that the day they realised a particular thing in their lives the whole scenario changed and they went ahead with renewed vigour and interest. The feeling of 'I will also do it' is itself a turning point.
In my life, as I remember now, there were some situations when drastic changes took place and one that I still remember is about the joining of my first job after doing my PG course.
As I had good score in my PG my parents told me not to join a small job and more specifically anything below the lectureship in a college or university. So I applied and was waiting but did not get success. I refused all the small jobs that were coming to me at that point of time easily. This went for a year and then I realised that I was simply wasting my time and told my parents that I would be accepting any job and leaving. My parents did not like the idea but I got a small job in a far off town and immediately left home for it.
During that job I literally learnt more about the world around than what I learnt till my PG and then I realised that I took a good decision. Soon, I got a few good jobs and switched over and my life changed with that decision of accepting a small job.

I was in my B.SC., final year. Final year examinations were in progress. The next day I had a Physics examination. In the night I had a heavy fever and the next morning I couldn't fare the examination well. I did well in all other subjects. I was sure that I would not get the minimum required marks. As expected I failed in that subject.
If I have to go for higher studies I should get first class in B.Sc. But if I pass compartmentally I will not be allotted class even though my marks are higher than 60%. My chemistry teacher suggested I cancel all the results of the final year and attend all final-year examinations together in the September batch. Then I will be allotted class and I can go for higher studies. I liked the idea. But many of my family members were not for it. Against all their wishes I decided to cancel the previous result and attend all subject papers together again. I took a big risk but I fared well and I got distinction and I procured M Sc seat. That was the turning point in my life, I feel. Sometimes bold decisions taken by us will bring unexpected turning points in our lives.

Interesting narration by Dr Rao. I did not know that one can get the present results cancelled and give all papers again alongwith next batch for getting a good score to become eligible for PG admission.
