How do synonyms help us in better writing?

Synonym is defined as a word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word in certain contexts. A word can have many synonyms. For example if one wants to say 'very good' one can alternatively say 'excellent' or 'wonderful' or 'superb'. These are all synonyms. Remember, they may not mean exactly same but in many situations we can exchange them comfortably. That is where the good writers choose these words in their writing in such a way that a strong impact of writing is made on the reader.
Using synonyms in writings or in a content and avoiding repeating the same word makes a content impressive. Have you ever considered using synonyms in that way in your content? Or you write the words as they come up in your mind? Please share your experiences.

When I was learning English then my father brought a thesaurus for me. A thesaurus is a dictionary of synonyms. It helped me to find equivalent words and that increased my vocabulary and gave me ideas that instead of using a common word we could use a better and less known word to decorate our writings.
That time our English learnings were limited to reading a newspaper or reading a story or writing answer to an examination question. But later when I started to write for some women's magazines then the knowledge of synonyms helped me to write in a better form.
Then came the era of internet and we started to contribute here and there and then found this site and started to contribute our writings here.
This thread reminds me of the old days when I was desparate to learn English and searching synonyms or new words in the newspaper or other magazines.

Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Synonyms are very useful for creating content. Sometimes we may have to use the same word many times in our writings. In such cases, if we know the synonyms of the word, we can use them instead of repeating the same word. We all know that synonyms may not convey the same meaning and there may be some difference. In certain situations, this may create some confusion. So writers should see the accuracy of the meaning and the most suitable synonym to be used. A person who has a big vocabulary can create quality content. Many writers try to use synonyms that are rarely used to show novelty in their writings. Understanding such words may be difficult for an average person in the language.
In all languages, we find such synonyms. There is a book called Amarakosam. This book gives synonyms for various words in Sanskrit. Many Telugu poets read this book to improve their language skills.
