What is the real reach of AI?

With every single technological innovation, the 60 plus fellows like me are terrified. I now know how to navigate most parts of my smart cell phone but miserably fail because my highly placed son, who studied at the Indian School of Business and who now speaks Hindi far better than an UP fellow, has an Apple Smart phone that reportedly has a very advanced Operating System and some AI features as well.

Since I still do not know anything about the Apple IPhone, am amazed at some reports suggesting that AI will virtually influence what we see, buy,0
spend on services and so on. Today,my limited knowledge is that the moment I see a video on how to make Mysore Masala Dosa, within seconds another forty appear. Am told that this is part of Data Analytics, which comes under the AI umbrella.

Now, can an expert like Umesh Sir please clarify about AI. Will it remain a mere support tool to help us live better lives or will it virtually conquer us in the years to come? What is the actual truth and why?

Other members with a good IT background may also please clarify.

I am also not much conversant with AI. But with my limited knowledge, I feel AI is important to automate tasks done by humans, in many areas, AI can do tasks better than humans. It is more so when a job is repetitive. This is very useful in tasks, such as analyzing large numbers of legal documents. AI tools can complete such jobs quickly with relatively few errors. it can process huge data and can provide insights into their operations.
Uber and Ola can manage their business so easily by connecting users and providers through computers. In the absence of AI, we might not have expected such a fast booking of a taxi to move out easily. Many times we book a taxi just after getting ready as we can get the taxi within 5 to 10 minutes. Here AI works in analysing the data available very fast and providing a connection between the user and provider. Like this many other things can be automated using AI. Many manufacturing industries will have some sort of repetitive work. These works can be automated and can be managed with Robots using this AI tools..

ABSivakumar, you have raised an important issue about AI and its possible effectiveness in future. I am also learning about it just from the information available in the internet. I am not a technical expert in AI field but in my view it is only an advanced tool helping the companies in advertising their products and helping the experts for quickly settling many tasks. It is a highly intelligent software that can do a myriad of activities as learned by it in its memory and robotic experience.
In future it is going to be much more powerful as it will be able to access more data and use better analytic tools. We will become more dependent on it as it will be knowing our personal likings, requirements, and behavioural patterns and then offering us the material and services as required by us but as predicted by it.
AI is going to be everywhere and when it is supplemented with robots then a virtual world will emerge around us where we will have to execute real things taking help from AI and robots.
Only thing these applications and machines would miss in them are human emotions and sentiments.

    Knowledge is power.

AI is going to be a very crucial factor in our lives in future and there is no doubt about it in our minds.
One thing that I am expecting is that with the help of AI our house old gadgets will be connected to our mobile in a wireless way and everything will be known to us even if we are not present in our house.
Besides that I am also expecting a lot of improvement and progress in train, air, and bus reservations as the locations of the people will be known to the travel companies to pickup them from a convenient place.
Like that there will be many things where we would see improvement.
To the down side there are fears of increasing unemployment which will happen as manual activities will reduce due to introduction of robots everywhere.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
