Make rain water harvesting compulsory throughout India

The late CM of Tamil Nadu, the impervious dictator called Jayalalitha did too many atrocities and minted some two lakh crores through corruption; one of the few good things that she did was to make rain water harvesting compulsory throughout the State. Today, most parts of Chennai are fairly okay only because the rain water harvesting has made most gated communities have better ground water levels.

It is sad to see Bangalore go through the worst water crisis but am told that the rain water harvesting scheme is not compulsory. Perhaps they thought that Cauvery water is good enough for all their needs.

Rain water harvesting is the best and most scientific method of harvesting the purest form of water in the world. Let us make it compulsory throughout India now

That is very correct. Rainwater harvesting is an excellent process for improving the groundwater levels and even in summer, we will not see any decrease in groundwater levels. In United Andhra Pradesh when our visionary CM Mr Naidu was heading the state, made rainwater harvesting compulsory in multistoried buildings. But later on, the Telangana government did not follow that. As of now, there is no severe crisis for water in Hyderabad. However, some of the actions taken by the TRS government may show negative effects in the coming years. Now there is a change in the government of Telangana and Revanth has become the CM. Eventhough he is from the congress party he is a big fan of Naidu. So he may make this rain harvesting compulsory. We have to wait and see.
I have personally implemented this rain harvesting methods in our manufacturing area where the total land is more than 200 acres and we have experienced a huge gain in the water level underground.

I agree that making rain water harvesting compulsory in our country would help in making water available even in dry spells. Many places, there have been good efforts in this direction but it requires more thrust in this area.
Rain water harvesting is to be made compulsory as part of the building plan and should be mandatory for plan approval.
Only problem with rain water harvesting is that after some time the rain water stops entering the rocks below due to clogging and then cleaning and making the path clear for water entry in earth becomes a costlier option. That is the main reason why many people are avoiding it.

    Knowledge is power.

Rainwater harvesting was a much talked about subject a few years back for conservation of water and it was taken seriously by the Govt also and in many states it was made compulsory but in my understanding due to some technology gap or technical problem in many places it did not perform as expected. Probably it requires more efforts and affordable solutions for storing the water under the buildings or near it by injecting water underground.
If the rainwater harvesting is a costly proposition then many house builders may avoid it until it is forced on them.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
