Do you Know? In the coming Lok Sabha election, some people can vote from their home

In the upcoming Lok Sabha election, some people are allowed to vote from their residence. Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Rajiv Kumar, has announced that individuals above 85 years of age or those people who are having 40 per cent or more disability can opt to vote in the Lok Sabha election from their residence. This facility will also be applicable to the voters of the four states which are going to have Assembly election along with Lok Sabha poll.

However, if the very old voters (above 85) or voters with more than 40 per cent disability come to vote to the polling booth, volunteers and other facilities like wheelchairs will be available for them.

I welcome this decision taken by the Election Commission of India. Hope this decision will be implemented everywhere in the country.

Voting from home for the elderly and disabled was a long pending issue but so far was not possible due to various technical and administrative reasons. This announcement is a good news for the people who want to vote but are not physically able to visit the polling booth.
Such improvements in our polling system are most welcome.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Exercising voting in respect of both senior - citizens over 85 years of age and citizens suffering from disability to the extent of 40% has been relaxed from this time and onward keeping in view of their inconvenience.
This must be seen as a welcome step taken up by the chief election commissioner. At least, these categories have been duly benefited.

It is a very good decision and facilitates aged and otherwise challenged people to cast their votes conveniently from their houses. In earlier days employees of the government used to cast their votes using postal services. At the same time, if they want to come and vote in the polling station, the required facilities will also be provided. So the individual can select any one of these two options at their convenience. The Chief Election Commissioner should see that all the people know about this facility by making more advertisements. Otherwise, many aged people are not casting their votes due to their inability to move.
I hope elections will be conducted without any unwanted incidents rigging etc so that the person wanted by the people only will be selected without any problem. Especially in some states money distribution has become an issue and a lot of money is being spent to win. Let us hope that we will have a peaceful and sensible elections this time.

I agree, this decision by the Election Commission of India is a positive step towards ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in the electoral process. It acknowledges the challenges faced by elderly and differently abled voters and provides them with the option to vote from their residence, while also ensuring that necessary facilities are available for those who choose to vote in person. This could potentially increase voter turnout among these demographics and strengthen democracy by ensuring that every eligible citizen can participate in the electoral process.

Dr. Rao Sir: The postal ballot system still exists for Government officials on election duty and many other people including armed forces personnel performing duty elsewhere.
