Have you ever managed the household work without the help of the maid servant?

Maid servants are easily available for our household work in our country. We have to pay them from Rs1500 to Rs 3500 per month depending upon the jobs given. For cooking job an additional Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 is to be paid in most of the cities. Some people who can afford full time servants can have them by paying from Rs 6000 to Rs 18000 depending upon the work and the city where they live.
The above rates can differ between the posh localities and remote and interior places and are indicative of the average rates in the towns and cities. Whatever it is, many people are able to afford that kind of money and that is the reason why we see maid servants working in most of the houses.
Have you ever managed the household work without the help of the maid servant? Was it tough to manage? What are your experiences?

We have a servant quarter in our house and the same has been given to our servant maid without any rent and she will be paid a separate salary. She will not do any cooking or related work. She will be doing house cleaning, clothes washing in the washing machine and utensils cleaning. They do watering of plants also regularly and help my wife with other work but in the kitchen Once in a while, she goes on leave. On those days my wife will be managing and other members will be helping her.
Last time my wife went to her sister's house for 10 days. Our servant maid also went somewhere to attend a marriage function. Then I was alone. I managed cooking, house cleaning and utensils cleaning. I could not carry out clothes washing. Anyhow, we all should get prepared for any situation and face it.

As the maid servants are easily available in our country at reasonable rates for their services most of us employ them and in a way become habitual of that. When they go on some short leave then only we realise that how much dependent we have become on them. Their presence in our household has become a necessity sort of thing and from that point of view they are very important entities in our lives.
As regards living without them some people are able to manage especially who are experienced having done household work earlier in their lives.
I have a good experience of doing household work in past during my bachelor life and if situation demands I can work in kitchen without any inconvenience. Those who have not done the household work earlier might find it difficult to manage it in absence of the maid servant as well as the lady members in the family.

Such question never got raised when we lived in a joint family system. But nowadays both husband and wife lives as a small family and moreover both of them working as earning members the need of servant maid is become necessary. In our house, we used to do our cleaning works by ourselves, floor cleaning etc., done by ourselves and as for as cleaning the vessels I used to wash the utensils immediately after using while cooking itself the residue will be less only. So, we do not need servant maid for the daily work. But when we celebrate any function in home we utilize the service of servant maid for cleaning vessels only.
However utilizing such labour is essential as we are giving an opportunity to earn some amount to them.

"Maid servants are easily available for our household work...." I think this is not the case for all or in all places.
We who were subjected to transfers found it difficult to get a suitable household maid servant. We were not lagging in payments, but faced many practical difficulties. We had to face situations of our leave and their leave. Many times it happened that they were absent when their service was most needed -like when we became sick, or guests came, or some functions were at home, etc.
Only in one place we got a dependable, reliable an suitable maid, who was with us for some years before we got transfer. And we also took care of her well by giving good remuneration, festival extra payments, dresses' for her and family and financial help for son's study and daughter's marriage.

But since my wife quit her job we do not have a maid servant at home, and are managing so. It is now abut more than fifteen years as such.

We have one maid and one cook working in our residence. On every Sunday, they take leave (this is as per verbal agreement). Every Sunday, my wife does all the household work herself. I try to help her to the best of my ability. But my quality and speed of work are so high(!), that my wife orders me to leave her alone within 10-15 minutes.
