    Help required to identify the right film from some 30-40 years back

    The plot is about women working in a bordelo. From amongst them, a very young girl is sent to an old man. When older, she meets the son of this old man and threatens to jump into the river when going there. She finally takes her own life walking into the flooded river.
    AI thinks it is the movie Mandi from 1983, but when searching this on Google, the film does not have the right plot.
    I am curious to know the movie which has this plot. Can anyone help me out?

    AI will try to find the nearest match to the proposed or actual plot of a film and as there are so many film stories similar to each other AI would not be able to pinpoint it. Films having more and less same story but different dialogues, different locales, different costumes, and different cinematography appear to us different but AI will find them same based on the core plot and will not be able to differentiate so minutely.
    I had seen many Hindi movies but I am not getting any having such plot in my memory.
    May be some other members here might through more light on that issue.

    Thanks a lot for answering :-) And yes, there seems to be many films very similar to each other, also with similar names.
    The strange (?) thing in AIs answer is that AI describes the plot perfectly detailed and correct, but looking up the listed title (Mandi), year (1983) and director (Shyam Benegal), I get another film..

    Johan, you are welcome. Regarding this AI, I have a feeling that it would give a detailed plot but when it would compare it with the plots of available films around the world in various languages then it would go for the nearest match and in that search you stumbled upon a Hindi movie.
    A nearest match may not be the thing that we are searching. Another thing we have to remember is that AI is a developing platform learning from every query and transaction. It will take some time for AI to reach from 'nearest match' to 'perfect match' in dubious cases.

    Sunil: I am unfortunately not able to tell for sure if it was a foreign og indian film, but my guess is absolutely an indian film. A foreign film would not be able to create that nerve, I think... :-I

    Knowledge is power: You are probably right about AI - it might be a bit difficult. But the reason for me knowing AI found the right film is that it described how this little girl years later met and fell in love with the son of the old man who raped her as a child. I had not mentioned this the way AI did. And I guess this happening might be a bit special to that film, and therefore it definiteyly has some knowledge of "my" film :-)

    Johan, You are welcome. There is a movie in Telugu.
    The plot is like this. There was a girl by the name of Sita. She stays with her mother and sister. She fell in love with a person by the name of Chandram. There was another person in that area by the name of Gopala Krishna. She wanted to marry Sita. So he arranged for Gundas and got Chandram killed. Sita came to know about this and she married the old father of Gopala Krishna entered his house as his stepmother and made Gopala Krishna realise his mistakes.
