    Are you doing it seriously?

If you are a student, don't worry I am not going to talk about studies this time and if you are not then also I am not going to bother you with your professional tasks. You may now ask me whether I am going to discuss some serious issues here. Well, think of it and try to find out what I wish to mean here.

Do you regularly eat your food seriously or just gobble it because you are too busy? I know many of you remain busy with your mobile devices for a significant portion and also watch a couple of movies but do you seriously enjoy the movie or just watch it as you have heard about the movie from someone? You may still question me about the kind of seriousness required to enjoy a movie and I would say that it's all about going in-depth to know what it's all about and not just like reading a book without understanding anything.

You know what? To do any task seriously and to properly feel it you need the environment. I am sure the experience of enjoying the movie Jurassic Park on a big screen would be quite different than enjoying it on the small screen of a mobile device even with superior earphones. If you have to concentrate on your studies then also you require a quiet environment. So, even if you are listening to music feel it. I am sure you will never enjoy it when you have some serious tasks in hand and your mind will remain occupied with it. Whatever little things you do or like keep some time for it and don't just rush in thinking it as a routine task.

Unfortunately, this is a very common situation now, especially among the working youth. They are capable and so do multitasking at a time. While their ears are glued to the phone, the fingers would be tapping on the laptop, in between they pop in some snacks or suck on some cool drink bottle. Simultaneously, an instrumental music will be playing in the background in the laptop.

Not that they will not be enjoying, but their attention or the inner involvement will be distributed among so many things that they do not get the full feel and enjoyment they should have got if they concentrated on one thing at a time.

Food is the only thing that we take for ourselves exclusively. All other things we do, partially at least, for the sake of others too. Hence, at least when we take food, to the maximum possible extent one should ensure a peaceful atmosphere and ambience, be among loved ones and enjoy each item on the dining table by their color, aroma, shape, size, and taste.

Dining time may be the common occasion in our homes where we all sit around and interact. We should not lose this at least. If already lost, let us try to bring it back.

I feel the charisma of doing something with enjoyment has been lost not only in the present youth (students, I need to mention, who are addicted to gadgets) but our 2K kids also. I still remember my childhood/adulthood days, which we cherish forever. When we were young dinner time was the most awaited as we were all together and had fun interacting with each other. Since we had to go to school/college/office during the daytime dinner was always meant as a get-together and sometimes we even had moonlight dinner at our rooftop. I would still enjoy doing culinary/housekeeping/gardening as I feel some sort of relieving stress too.

I am sure, the present generation would miss those cherished moments. Most of the time, I have seen the kids with some gadget or the other. This is a bane for humankind, I suppose.

Doing a job seriously means to do it with concentration and focus and never in a hurry. Most of the times it is the hurry that makes it a superficial or touch and go type of attempt.
It also requires a good degree of patience and endurance for doing a job or task or a routine activity if we are really interested to do it with care and attention.
Some people have the art of doing things seriously without getting distracted and that is a great quality and trait they possess.
I always yearn for that though I succeed only a few times.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

The author really explained well about how people behave nowadays. Many times, people do things without thinking if it is the right time or environment. They just do it for the sake of doing it. Most of us work only to complete a particular task, regardless of whether we get actual results or satisfaction. Consequently, it can make work less meaningful , enjoyable and diminishes its quality.

Nowadays many of us are trying to do multi-tasks. It is OK to do that but we should concentrate and focus on the work we are doing now. Then only we can do it in the best possible way. Otherwise having one leg in one boat and another leg in another boat is never advisable. A student should be serious about his/ her studies and should not think about games when they are studying, when he is playing a game concentrate on that but not on something else. We should be serious about what we are doing. Spending time with a book without concentrating on the subject is a waste of time.
Many times we may not be able to deliver properly. This is mainly due to not taking the task seriously. I have seen some people who attempt many jobs half-heartedly. Such persons may not be able to come out successfully. This is mainly due to a lack of commitment to the job they are doing. Don't think too much about the past, don't expect much in the future but concentrate on the job on hand should be our policy.

A teacher knowing well that one student is not alike another. The capacity of a student is completely differ from another. No real teacher or parent force their children by comparing with another. This will make the concerned children to feel bad and in some times the children kept this in their mind and the result is expected to be worsen level.
Similarly multi task cannot be expected from all persons or children. I have seen some ladies cooking in the kitchen by listening radio or song in mobile or talking over mobile phone and faced with a bad result in cooking. It is really a worth doing if cooking without any diversion or staggered mind. If some body doing like that means that is their special capacity.
Famous Chef Bhatt once told there are real difference in making dosa by a hotel person and a housewife where the involvement is more in case of house wife as she knows who like dosa of what kind but a hotel dosa master as duty makes dosa without knowing for whom he is making dosa.

Thank you for your message about taking tasks seriously. It's an interesting idea and I appreciate your thoughts on it.

I agree that it's important to be fully focused and engaged in what we do, whether it's eating or watching a movie. We shouldn't just do things automatically without really paying attention.

You're right about the environment playing a big role in how we experience things. Studying in a quiet place is definitely better, and watching a movie on a big screen is a different experience compared to a small screen.

Your advice to make time for things we enjoy and not rush through them as routine tasks is good. It's important to appreciate the little things in life.

    Regards,

    Sunil
