We need reasonable tourism packages as well

There is a trip by the Volvo Bus which is also air-conditioned. It is run by the Tamil Nadu State Development Corporation. The trip includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is priced at Rs.2300 per person. This is a rather costly trip from Chennai to Tirupathi, and this is a super-hit with the upper middle class.

The aforesaid bus trip is one example of how the relatively poorer sections do not have access to even worship of Lord, at a world-class temple. The Governments should run non-air conditioned buses in the evening and also arrange for reasonably good accommodation at a place like Tirupathi. The food expenses can be subsidized by involving voluntary agencies or self-help groups. The special darshan for concerned devotees should also be made possible. Of course, the free food given at the temple is reported to be very good.

We need different strategies to address the needs of the common man. Yes. There are daily trips to places like Kodaikanal, at reasonable prices. However, the food issues should be sorted out better and the summer vacation should be utilized to attract more tourists from the lower middle classes.

It's an eye-opener to realize how such experiences are often out of reach for many due to high costs. I wholeheartedly agree that travel should not be a luxury reserved for the upper middle class. The idea of introducing non-air-conditioned buses for evening travel and arranging for cost-effective lodging is brilliant. It could really open up opportunities for everyone to participate in these spiritual journeys, irrespective of their economic background.

Moreover, your suggestion about involving community groups to manage and subsidize food expenses is a thoughtful approach to make these trips more inclusive. Ensuring that special darshan is accessible to devoted individuals without imposing financial burdens on them is crucial. It's about time we started looking at tourism and religious visits through a more inclusive lens, ensuring that such experiences are a possibility for all sections of society. Your post is a call to action for more equitable tourism practices, and I hope it sparks the necessary changes to make these experiences a reality for everyone.

    Regards,

I like to inform the author that TSRTC and APSRTC are running tourist packages to Tirupathi from Hyderabad and Vijayawada. There are non-AC services with non-AC rooms for stay and darshan at Tirumala. There are different packages and people can select the package they like and can afford. In addition to the above, there is TS Tourism and AP Tourism packages which are very reasonable and persons can have good darshan at Tirumala. IRTCT is also running packages on trains as well as by bus. There are flight packages also.
But I feel that going on our own after booking a ticket and planning the trip at our convenience will give us better satisfaction. Recently, I and my wife went to Ujjain. We went to Ujjain. We went to Indore on flight. From there we travelled on a car and covered all the places around in 3 days and came back. I felt we completed the trip with reasonable expenses.

There are various tour packages from different nearby cities to these religious as well as other tourist places. AC as well as non-AC or ordinary buses are available either through Govt run transport or private operators. In most of them stay at the place is included. Food is an issue in these tours because of various reasons and getting good food is a problem most of the time. Regarding food, people have different expectations. It is difficult to provide fresh and choice food to everyone present in the tour group.
The big question is how much Govt can subsidise for the poor in different areas? Theoretically it should do everything but there is a limit to freebies reaching at certain threshold.

Worldwide, tourism activities are increasing and in our country also there is a rise in number of tourists visiting various places in our country. The transport facilities are also proportionately increasing to meet this demand and Govt transport as well as private transport is meeting this crowd of people moving from one place to another.
As regards the cost of transport only in Govt sector it can be subsidised and private operators will charge as per the business margins in the transport industry.
I don't think that food is a problem today. Along any tourist circuit everywhere so many eateries, hotels, and dhabas are available where one can get a variety of food. Only thing is one has to pay for it. There are all types of these hotels available from cheaper snacks to menu foods. Some budget travellers manage by keeping dry foods with them.

    Knowledge is power.

Sivakumar, aren't there any other buses to Thirupathi from Chennai and back? You may like to check and verify. I do think that there are state transport services, trains and other modes. Why be so categorical? I seek an explanation.

There are a few private sector services, but mostly air-conditioned. Government buses are plenty. But they do not have packages. In other words, they have to make their own arrangements to see the Lord and do not have the access as the people who travel by the air-conditioned buses.

I have made some inquiries in this regard. Of course, there are day trips in some places. However, if the Government takes the support of the voluntary agencies, some support to the tourism in different places, can be done easily. This will enable the lower middle classes to also see some places.

Rao Sir, the APSRTC buses are available, but the package has received very negative comments on You Tube. I am told that the officials do not respond properly to questions and the pick up points are also not very clear. I do not know the present position.
