A humble request to all the members

Recently ISC has allowed us to post in forums on topics other than educational material and now we are witnessing a variety of them. Some members are also posting games, puzzles, contests, etc and there is a good response also. Those who are posting these interesting threads are supposed to moderate and after some time also close them by making a request to the editors for locking them when the threads become too long or meet the purpose.

At present, there are two games by members and one contest by ISC is running. My humble request to all the members is that at a time we should have a maximum number of about 2-3 games/contests running because if this number is increased some of those will starve for responses. If we keep this in mind we will have a smooth going ahead in the forum section benefitting everyone.

This is just a suggestion so that if any member is thinking of floating a new game/contest then one can wait till the closure of some earlier one.

Above is only my view and request and not a direction. I request the Managing Editor (ME) to take a final view on this.

I fully agree to the proposal of Umesh Sir.

A contest must be properly designed, nicely timed and systematically executed. Many contests at the same time won't help this site.

Yes, Umesh. This is good advice. I suggest that if one member is organizing some fun activity, others could wait till that is completed. That way, not only will members be able to focus on other threads, but this would spread out the fun activities. It is ok to have some activity clashing with an official contest, since the latter can be announced suddenly as and when the admin. gives the green signal to launch it.

Secondly, Umesh is right in stating that the member who is organizing the activity should monitor it on a daily basis and have some sort of cut-off in mind, either on the basis of a last date or on the maximum number of total entries with the organizer giving a closing response that now the activity can be closed. I suggest that, if possible, in such activities we could restrict the number of entries by one member to three maximum so that it does not get extended for too long.

Partha's words are apt about the design, timing and execution. Any member-organized activity should not reach a point where an editor is required to step in to get it back on track or say it is going on for too long and must end. Let it go smoothly from start to finish.

Partha and Vandana, thanks for the encouraging words and making it more clear. Let us all try to manage our fun/game/contest posts as advised by ME. Keep contributing and all the best.

One more thing- surely we can contribute with self-written content. Why are members taking the assistance of AI?!! Whether it is an official or unofficial activity, participation in a forum discussion, submitting an article or giving a KC response, we will take stringent action when we catch fake content. Repeated infractions may lead to a suspension. Consider this a stern warning.

That is true. Too many contests or competitions at a time may not attract the attention of many members. So one or two at the maximum should be active at any given time. That way it can be planned. However, official contests will be organised at their convenience and other matters. After taking away the restrictions definitely, there is an improvement in traffic to the Forum section. At least two or three new threads are coming. Members like Sivakumar are active now. Hope this will continue and we will see good activity now.
Why do we have to contribute to ISC? My answer is to improve our language skills and writing skills. If we use AI or other tools, the very purpose is defeated, I feel. So I feel any member who is sincere and wants to benefit may not use such tools.
Anyhow, I hope we will see ISC again in its original status. I wish ISC and all the stakeholders all the best.

I always thought the other way. Irrespective of the number of contests or games running side by side, I feel interested members will participate. We have been having TOW contests, group discussions etc running parallel and with encouraging participation. More contests mean more participation and that helps. I agree that members who organize contests or puzzles/ quizzes must make it a point to announce a last date when the thread would be closed. Take this 'This or that' thread for instance. I am sure that it can carry on for a very long time because everything has a 'this or that'. But then we need to put a full stop at some point and that is the prerogative of the author because an editor's intervention is considered as discouraging by some.

During my earlier phase of contributing in ISC, we had many contests in a month, most of them by ISC and a few by members. At that time there were a good number of active members and generally every post was well responded by other members and the person who started the post also participated in between whenever a member made a query about something mentioned in the origin of post.
Presently, I find that the active members are less though during the past month the number is slightly increased.
More the active members more volume of forum activity will occur.
Now fun, games, and other miscellaneous activities are allowed in forum section and this would bring some more members to it and I hope that number will increase as well as participation will also increase.
If that happens more fun posts can be allowed at a time.

Floating a new post and starting a thread is a great idea and we all look to new posts by the members. First thing I do after login in ISC is to look for them.
At the same time responding to a post is a greater idea because that is where critical and creative thinking starts working. In my view, floating a new post is not as difficult as giving a proper and fitting response to a post.
