    Have you heard about 'anti-cafes'!

We all are aware of cafeterias, hotels, and restaurants where we go for tea, coffee, snacks, or food items. We pay as per the items consumed and then walk away.
The concept of anti-cafe is different. This is a place where customers are charged as per the time and they are provided complimentary tea, coffee, snacks, buffet food, etc and they can sit there for a longer time reading books, using other facilities like playing a piano and other such engagements.
This concept was started in Russia in 2011 and then spread to some other countries. In India there are such cafes in Pune, Hyderabad, Gauhati, Chennai, and Cochi. The rates are in the range Rs 60 to 170 per hour.

Are you aware of these anti-cafes? Have you ever visited one?

This is a new information. There may be some cafes like that in our country but the trend has so far not caught the fancy of the people otherwise by now there would have been so many like that almost in main or major cities.
This seems to be a good place for those who have ample time in hand and can pass their time leisurely in such outlets. As per the rates mentioned above if a group of 4-5 people go to such a cafe for say 5-6 hours then they would have to pay about Rs 3000. So, if they can afford that kind of money for spending the time in that ambience, it is worth.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

This is something new for me. I have never heard of such cafes. But that's a good trend because sometimes people have to spend time to wait for something/someone and in that case they search for a place where they can sit comfortably and that's a perfect place as it's affordable for people.

But if you are in group them it can be a costly affair. Still it's a good if people can bear the cost.

This business seems to be new but at the same time, it is a money-spinning business. The owners of the hotels might calculate the hidden benefits of such a deal. The mode of anti - cafe is a profit - making business only when there is no rush of the customer for the items they are serving. If there is a constant flow of customers for the different items they serve and no space is available for them to enjoy such items due to constraints of space, it would turn out to be a counter - productive business.
Otherwise, anti- cafe might add earnings to the business.

I heard about this. Here complimentary food is decided by them. You can't have any choice. I never visited such places. But I heard about them. Sometimes we used to visit cafe cafes where different types of coffee can be ordered. We used to sit and discuss for an hour or so. During that time, once or twice we will order coffee or tea. Bill will be for the food items only.
Various new concepts are being developed in businesses to improve their customer base and do good business. Hotels on Wheels is also a concept in Hyderabad. A van with food will come and stand on the side of the road. People can go and eat there as per their requirements. The rates are not very high and very reasonable. People who go for a long drive and come back late in the night can eat this food fast and come back home and take a rest.
We had food in such hotels many times.

I was not aware of the term 'anti-cafe". But I recall reading a news item that a restaurant is coming at Kochi, with the concept of pricing the time spent. and not the food consumed. The prescribed food and drinks were complimentary. There was mention of the complimentary items and the indicative price slabs for time spent.

I visited Guwahati very recently and noticed it, perhaps near police bazaar area. But didn't know about the concept and my daughter told me about it. She said that it's a new trend and it would work well, if located near Railway stations and RTC Bus complex areas.

I think the concept is followed based on the Lounge Access at various airports where some banks provide us facility with Credit/Debit cards getting debited with just Rs.2/- and we can spend there for 2 hours with free food and soft drinks.

When I read about these things and started this thread then I was a bit puzzled that whether the information was really true or fake because the media today is filled with all sort of information.
Now Jagdish Patro confirming the presence of such a thing in Gauhati makes me more confident about the information I shared. Thanks.
