What are your thoughts on digital twins concept?

Digital twins involve replicating real-life objects in digital form using real-time data collected through sensors or other techniques. The concept aims to create digital replicas of real objects, benefiting various industries in improving their products and processes. For example, it can help engineers in designing more robust building structures, while doctors can utilize it for planning surgeries and treatments more effectively.

Digital twins is a technology that is already in use in some industries and some select top companies have adopted it successfully.
The basic idea is to create a virtual replica of the machine and then see its performance by simulating conditions. That helps in getting information on its maintenance cycle and other measures to take for its error free working. Another use is to make a virtual model of a would be building, bridge, or any such structure and see how it will be affected during earthquake or floods or any such disaster. These observations and virtual testings help in designing the construction projects in a better and safe way.
So, digital twins technology has immense potential and only thing is we have to simulate just like real life conditions in the virtual image or replica or model to understand the behaviour of the machine or structure so that necessary preventive measures could be taken in the real life of that entity.

For me this appears a new area of knowledge but seems quite useful for undertaking various engineering and construction projects.
So far we were only knowing about the drawings of engineering projects which only mentioned the sizes of various parts and their locations but in this digital twins technology a model is to be made and testing of that is simulated digitally to see the affect of external forces or parameters. It is amazing that such things are possible on a digital platform and can help in designing better machines or better construction of buildings etc. It is also told that by doing that even maintenance of machines can be improved. That would certainly result in better performance.

Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
