What is that motivates you to act or work?

Motivation is a very important factor in our lives for invoking a feeling in us to work or to act. We are all human beings and have an inbuilt tendency of resistance to work. Until and unless there is a reason motivating us we do not take trouble to act in a particular direction. Different people are motivated by different things. At different times these factors can change also depending upon the situation and circumstances.
Some people are motivated by name and fame, some work for a livelihood or money, some are motivated by challenges in life, while some are motivated by competition and so on.
What are the factors that motivate you to work or do efforts for something? Have you ever worked without motivation?

The most common factor that motivates majority of the people is money. When there is some money is involved, people come forward to work. But it is not the only way of motivating people. There are many more.
In our school, there used to be a notice board and on that notice board, the names of the students who attained first rank in the examination most recently conducted were being written. I used to get motivated by that. I always used to think that my name should appear on that board. The marks of internal examinations used to be announced by the teacher in the class. Our teacher used to say the name of the ranked student while announcing the marks. Many people used to get motivated by this announcement. They wanted their name to be announced and they used to try their best for this. That is how they were getting motivated. Many times I used to get motivated by hearing my name from the horse's mouth.

Motivation and encouragement of some kind is very essential in life without which a person feels himself purposeless and having no aim or goal.
Different factors motivate different people and what motivates a person does not necessarily motivate the other person.
Since my childhood I have great inclination towards orderliness, cleanliness, and discipline in life and I am much motivated by these factors. When I see that my things are well placed in their assigned places and everything is clean and in order then I feel happy and satisfied.
Being a housewife I have many such jobs to be done myself or get them done by the maid to my satisfaction. If maid is not doing the things properly then I have to redo those things.
My feeling is that we get inspired or motivated by things in which we have interest and also get opportunities to work in those areas.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Let me also share the things that motivate me. When I was in my school then I was considered a shy person as well as a studious student. Teachers liked me and that motivated me to prepare for the class beforehand and answer if teacher asked me a question or any question that he threw open to the students. Obviously, I was benefited by that and scored well.
As I had less number of friends and my outdoor activities were also less I had more time to spare for studies or reading books.
I was very lucky that we had a big Govt district library in our town and my father took me there and made me a member. It was free and I was allowed to take two books at a time. The library had an extensive collection of books right from children books to translated books of the great renowned authors of various countries.
I started reading the children story books and the journey of reading continued till my UG completion and then as I had to move to a different town for my PG, the reading habit got a break.
By that time I developed a habit of buying old books from some places where they were available very cheap and my reading habit continued albeit in a slow pace.
What I found was that more I read more I was motivated to read because there were so many questions coming in my mind which I wanted to get answers and at that time we did not have anything like internet to get quick answers on the go.
When I joined ISC, I found a section 'Ask Experts' and I found that I was able to answer some of the questions easily there. This motivated me to read more about the questions which I was not able to answer. Then I tried to answer almost every question there. That section is now more and less replaced by the Knowledge Centre. I can say that 'Ask Experts' section motivated me much and contributed in a great way to my learnings.
I am also motivated by any challenge for creative work from kitchen to the writing table.
In ISC, I made it a point to participate in each and every contest irrespective of getting award or not. Anyway, I was able to get a good number of rewards for that.

    Knowledge is power.

Appreciation is the major thing by which people get motivated at work. In many cases monetary support is also helpful to motivate people.

I always get motivated if my boss appreciate me for anything. I have noticed my working efficiency increases when someone appreciates my work.

It's very important that people at work always remain motivated so as their efficiency doesn't decline and they may be able to meet individual targets and ultimately the organisational goals.
