Does a student commit a wrong if he/she frankly points out a teacher's mistake?
Our scripts and culture teach us to surrender to our teachers or gurus. Earlier, students prostrated before their gurus, believing that he was the messenger of God. Even today, every student respects a teacher in our country. Even if he or she flogs a student, he or she is still like God, who is disciplining students and leading them towards the path of righteousness. Many parents even today teach children not to argue with a teacher because he is an elder. But some incidences prove that this preposition is never true. Let me explain with a fine example. In a classroom, during the recess period, senior students entered and threw groundnut shells on the table. When the teacher entered the class, he was full of rage. He announced in an enraging voice that the culprit should stand up, or else he would start hitting all the students with a cane. One little boy stood up in the class and frankly spoke to the teacher. Oh! Guru, These groundnut shells were not thrown by us, but by some senior students. If you want to do injustice to innocent children without even knowing the culprit, then I cannot withstand this injustice. So, I shall walk out of the class, and he really walked out. This student was none other than our greatest freedom fighter, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who sacrificed his life for Indians to restore independence.
So, I do not mean to say students should use derogatory words but should frankly and respectfully point out if any mistake is committed by a teacher. What is your view?
Would you teach your child to respect teachers under any circumstances or teach your child to express feelings openly when they are really wrong?
