Does a student commit a wrong if he/she frankly points out a teacher's mistake?

Our scripts and culture teach us to surrender to our teachers or gurus. Earlier, students prostrated before their gurus, believing that he was the messenger of God. Even today, every student respects a teacher in our country. Even if he or she flogs a student, he or she is still like God, who is disciplining students and leading them towards the path of righteousness. Many parents even today teach children not to argue with a teacher because he is an elder. But some incidences prove that this preposition is never true. Let me explain with a fine example.

In a classroom, during the recess period, senior students entered and threw groundnut shells on the table. When the teacher entered the class, he was full of rage. He announced in an enraging voice that the culprit should stand up, or else he would start hitting all the students with a cane. One little boy stood up in the class and frankly spoke to the teacher. Oh! Guru, These groundnut shells were not thrown by us, but by some senior students. If you want to do injustice to innocent children without even knowing the culprit, then I cannot withstand this injustice. So, I shall walk out of the class, and he really walked out. This student was none other than our greatest freedom fighter, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who sacrificed his life for Indians to restore independence.

So, I do not mean to say students should use derogatory words but should frankly and respectfully point out if any mistake is committed by a teacher. What is your view?

Would you teach your child to respect teachers under any circumstances or teach your child to express feelings openly when they are really wrong?

You are correct. We can point out the mistake but very politely and respectfully. A good teacher will never get hurt by such students and they encourage them. But some teachers never accept their mistakes and if anybody points out their mistake, they threaten the student and punish them.
However, I did not find anything wrong in the statement made by the teacher in the thread. He gave the option to the students to tell him we had thrown that waste on the table. If nobody was telling then only he told them that he would hit all the students. The students can say none from the classroom did it but some seniors came and threw that waste there.
I have seen many students who come out openly and show the mistakes committed by the teachers while delivering a lesson to the students. But at any cost, a student should never threaten a teacher.

Teachers while teaching or directing students for some work could at times do some mistakes and if a student gently tells them about that then there is nothing wrong in that. Only thing is that a student should tell that with due respect to the teacher. The attitude with which we talk with a person matters much. If told in a humble way why a teacher would mind that. There are teachers who even thank the students for indicating an error or reminding something.
Generally, students have no courage to confront a teacher due to a consistent fear of getting banged and many students do not venture in telling the teacher's mistake on the face and keep quiet.
Parents should find out from the children if such things happened in class and the details so that if the children had not interacted with the teachers in a polite way then parents could guide them as how to do it next time.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

This is a valuable post from the author's side. Our teachers can err at some point since they belong to the human class having ambition, greed, temper and other shortcomings. In case of emotional outbursts, their true nature can be identified.
What is expected from the student in such a situation might not be visible immediately since they don't want to invite any confrontation with their teachers. In that case, the parental role is very crucial. The parents can motivate their kids to behave in a proper way always without fear.

As told by the author, the teachers are Gurus. Similarly every one should respect the teachers and all elders. This is the practice what our elders taught us from childhood. This same attitude gradually commented by then youngsters as then elders are frightened the children unnecessarily. This developed in the minds of then children who are present youngsters not to respect elders and teachers and the attitude of this type makes the minds of children/students even to stab the teacher.
In addition to that I saw one advertisement video for a toothpaste in televisions as a student comments teacher whether she took greens on the day before (by pointing out some bits of greens found in her teeth).
These are all to be considered as not an etiquette.
Now coming to the raised question. Pointing out the mistake done by the teacher by a student can be done but in a polite way. No real teacher will take this otherwise.
Actually this was happened in our college days. Once Mr. Chari, lecturer of Calculus was teaching a solution of a problem. Then he pointed out A, A, B and D instead of A B C and D. All students shouted by pointing out this. He with smile corrected on the black board and with his continuous smile he appreciated all of us that we are concentrating the class well.

I fully agree that students should respect the teacher. A Guru is the most respectable person as per our culture and tradition and there is good sense prevailing in doing so.
Teachers become tough at times especially when they find that students are not taking interest in the class. They behave with students in a tough way and students should not feel it because teachers are doing so only for the betterment of the students.
Teachers are also human beings and can at times commit mistakes. There is no need for students to make a hue and cry and instead the monitor of the class or some other student should respectfully bring it in the knowledge of teacher. That is the right way of doing it.

    Knowledge is power.

When a student points out the mistakes of his teacher, it just shows that he is still an innocent, eager and studious student. This will give him a good feel and a self confidence.

But while he grows up he will learn no to be so naïve to point out the mistakes of the powers that be even if it is his teacher. He will learn the nuances of self-survival, diplomacy and the adage" Satyam brooyaat, priyam brooyaat, na brooyaat satyamapriyam".
