    What are your basic needs?

It is well known that food, shelter and clothes are the basic needs of our. Apart from it doesn't you think what other things we require to live life.

For me money is equally important because from money only we can buy these basic items. In fact money is the main thing with which one can buy any materialistic things whereas other things like emotions, relationships, friendship can never be bought by money. Still I put money in the basic needs category like other three things mentioned above.

What other things you all feel are important for a person to live a peaceful and comfortable life?

What the author has indicated relating to importance of money is correct but to what extent, the same is needed will vary from a person to person. The structure of the families, their priorities and choices will determine their money's requirements.
For an example of family- members of five in a family, total expenses needs fifty thousand, this might be around forty thousand for a set of another family due to their style of living and habits.
Though money is very much needed, but how much is the least cannot be determined for a family by another family due to the variance of the parameters.

To a person shelter, food and clothes are the basic needs. Among these three the first one is food. When we are hungry, if we fail to get the required food, we will get upset. Beyond a certain limit, we will not tolerate hunger and we go to any extent to satisfy that need.
As mentioned by the author money is not a basic need in my idea. But it is an instrument to get those basic needs. Get some money, and convert the same into food, clothes or shelter. So the importance of money has increased. We all feel secure if we have some money with us. This basic reason for mankind carving for money is that it gives a feeling of security to all the people.
As our money increases our basic needs will increase. When you have no house, your own house is a basic need. After purchasing a house, we think about other facilities in the house. As we grow financially, the basic needs requirement will also increase.

Basic needs mean needs to survive. So, food is the primary need. Then we require some place to take shelter.
Everything else then joins to these needs facilitating our lives and its materialistic demands.
Money is only a common medium to buy the needs for our lives. In ancient time when money was not there people simply exchanged materials for services and other items.
With the advent of civilization basic needs went into the background and many new needs emerged. These were mostly the need of luxury items and needs of show off in society more of cosmetic nature.

    Knowledge is power.

'Roti, Kapada avur Makaan' - are the basic needs required for every human being and the same is told to us by our parents, teachers and elders. Undoubtedly money plays an a important role to get these basic needs. Thus money too is important but it is not the only commodity required to achieve our targets. When your satisfaction limit crosses, the Vitamin M will boom rang just like sweets to a Diabetic patient.

This is an interesting discussion. Basic needs are the minimum needs for survival of a person but a human being is a highly developed species and has got a significant consciousness level which distinguishes him from all the animals in the nature and accordingly he yearns for more and more over and above his basic needs.
This generates an element of greed and desire in humans and then there is no end to it. In many cases such temptations lead to unnecessary stress and worries but that is human nature which still searches all avenues of facilities from emotional satisfaction to materialistic gains.
In our culture and mythology it is prescribed to ramain happy with the minimum one has and be satisfied because there is no limit to our wants and desires and it is better to control them in the beginning itself.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

'Roti, Kapada owr Makaan' - are the basic needs of all humans. This has been clearly mentioned by the world-famous Abraham Maslow in his theory of need hierarchy. According to Maslow, these are physiological needs and remain at the bottom of the pyramid he devised.

But human beings, very quickly, stop being satisfied after the fulfillment of the physiological needs. They shift their focus to social security needs and love and belonging needs. But, we, especially the political leaders, always remain at the first level of Maslow's pyramid.

And no one bothers about the fourth and fifth level of Maslow's pyramid, i.e.self-esteem need and self-actualisation need.

As mentioned by many, 'Roti, Kapada owr Makaan' are the basic needs. But slowly some needs will become basic needs to many once they have the three basic needs. When I was studying 10th class we had no electricity in our house and I used to read under the light of a kerosene lamp. So those days Electricity is not a basic need. But today a student will stop studying if there is no power and he waits for the power to come back. During summer we used to sleep in the open air and we used to use hand fans. But today we will not see any house without a fan. So, now fan has become a basic need. Over some time an AC may become a basic need.
