Will the statues of the departed leaders influence the election results in India?

Till yesterday, the statues of the great Indian leaders were adorning the streets and circles of different parts of the country. Some statues in a row in the beech corridors or tank bund places attract tourists also in few cities in this country. But the schedule for general elections for Lok Sabha has been announced and the poll process has been initiated. Thus the Election Code of conduct is now in place. The statues of Indian political leaders who represented various political parties have also come under the scanner of election code. Their faces have been covered with clothes or rather masked with white clothes. Their faces would be unseen till the final result is announced and the new Govt takes oath of office.

It would be a little doubt of many as to how these statues would influence voter. Is it necessary for the ECI to give some exemptions to such leaders who have done great work for the country and some of them are honored with Bharat Ratna or Padma Vibhushan. What's your call on this?

Election commission decides these things for conducting fair polls but my feeling in this matter is that any statue which is erected by the Govt itself to honour some earlier leaders is already there for quite some time and people are aware well about it and now how it will affect the voter at the polling time? It appears strange that people will change their votes just by seeing a glimpse of the statue of an earlier prominent leader.
I do not understand the rationale behind this regulation by the election commission.
The prominent earlier leaders are a thing of past and were affiliated to different political parties.
I will make it more clear from another example. In our country there are many names of buildings, institutions, bridges, parks, stadiums, etc on the name of leaders and a majority of names belong to Nehru family. Can we say that all those name boards be covered with cloth. I do not see any logic in doing such things or taking such precautions.

India is a very big country and we have not only the statues of prominent leaders of the past but there are many monuments, buildings, and other cultural heritage structures present in various places in our country pertaining to different cultures and religions. They are all symbols of our collected strength and democratic values. It is not that all the statues and monuments are belonging to a particular religion or race. Anyone who had done good work for the progress of the nation and the society in the past is rememberd and celebrated by people in this fashion. It is a common thing present at many places and there is nothing unusual about it.
I am also not able to understand the official view taken about covering of the faces of such statues. How is it related to the canvassing or biasing of a voter?

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

I agree with the author. A common man who travels on the streets for many reasons many times, even may not bother to see what statue is there on the street. Only political leaders once in a while garland the statue not with respect towards that leader but to attract public attention. Many statues of political leaders will be broken and birds will be going and standing on them and spoiling them. But nobody bothers about those statues. As such what influence these statues will have on the people?
Money, liquor and food. These are the three things that influence the people around them. Yesterday MLA candidate of one party in my native place arranged food distribution to many people. But no election commission knows about that. Money is flowing and liquor is also flowing everywhere in AP. But no official can stop them. EC is strict on unnecessary matters but not strict on the three items I mentioned and nobody can stop the flow of these items.
