    Whose voice is that?!

When we get up first thing in the morning and say something, sometimes have you noticed this- your voice sounds strange not just to others, but even to yourself! It sort of comes out sounding like gravel and a bit hoarse and perhaps you need to clear your throat a few times, too, when it is squeaky. The pitch, the tone, and the volume are all distinctively different from your normal speaking voice.

Basically, your voice is still in sleep mode and only after you have brushed your teeth, and rinsed your mouth that the 'awake' voice takes over. Of course, when you are having a cold and/or cough, then the voice does get affected, and when the cough is bad, you may find that your voice is really terrible and if you call others, nobody recognizes it is you on the phone!

How many of you have experienced that rusty voice in the morning?

When we sleep our body goes in a low activity mode and many of the parts are relaxing as per the order impulses from the brain. There is a lot of repair activity during this time and whatever water we had taken before going to bed is utilised in those biochemical processes and the result is that we feel thirsty when we get up in the morning. To quench this thirst people take water or tea to get fresh and feel really awaken from that long period of rest.
That could be a reason of having a slightly different voice pitch in the morning and that would go away as soon as we drink some water.
In young people this might not be a prominent phenomenon but old people generally take a good amount of water once they get up in the morning. In our Ayurveda system it is also prescribed to do so and many of us follow it.

I have not observed any such change in my voice in the morning time but I always feel dehydrated in the night and drink water whenever my sleep breaks in the night. Due to some health problems I have to take calcium supplements regularly and that might be the reason for feeling thirsty from time to time.
If I don't take water for prolonged time then my throat dries up and I cannot speak properly. I have experienced it during long journeys and after long walks.

Sometimes it happens. Sometimes when we get up and try to open our eyes, we feel difficulty in opening them. Slowly after a few seconds, we will be able to open our eyes. Many times I experienced the same. As mentioned by the author, sometimes when we get up in the morning our voice will be very low and our talk also is not clear. Our voice will be heard differently and slowly after a few minutes, it may become alright. That is every day morning I will lie down on the bed for a few minutes after coming out of sleep and then slowly I will get up and will not talk to anybody till I finish my brushing etc.
Taking water in the night is very important. Otherwise, we will get dehydrated and our mouths will also get dried. Some people will drink water immediately after getting up from the bed even without cleaning their teeth. That will make them refreshed and will get the required energy and the whole body will start functioning normally.

We notice some changes early in the morning such as voice not being normal immediately but it takes at least a couple of minutes such as 20 or 25 minutes. It might be due to a variation of the mode from the earlier one to the present one.
What we can do is to take sufficient care of our body keeping it in a hydrated condition with the proper intake of water at night half an hour of the lunch so that digestion is affected. Moreover, the consumption of water keeps our body hydrated. Hydration also helps us proper functioning of the different parts of the body apart from avoidance of hoarseness which we notice early in the morning.

Whenever I wake up abruptly from a deep slumber, there is a change in my voice.

My wife has lately gone to Raipur. I am enjoying myself alone in my residence. Today afternoon, I was enjoying a nice afternoon nap when she suddenly called me on my mobile to check whether I was behaving like a 'good boy' in the residence. I suddenly got up and said 'hello' in a groggy voice. My voice did not sound familiar to her at first. Later, she understood that I had been enjoying my afternoon nap.

I usually experience this especially when I do not get sufficient sleep and had to wake up half way.
It also happens when we stay awake after the usual sleeping hours, like when we stay awake and go on conversing during some family or social functions marriage or other festival times.
