Can you share your career path after completing HSC?

After completing the education at HSC (10+2) level, the process of career making starts either through a professional course (MBBS, Engineering, etc) or UG/PG/PhD route. That is a crucial junction when students try their best to choose a line of their interest and liking and compete to get into that stream.
For example, in my case I had a great desire to become a lecturer in some PG college and after completing my class XII, I simply joined UG course with science subjects. Afterwards I did my PG in Physics and enrolled for PhD but did not continue as I got a job of teaching in a junior college. After a few years I got a job in oil industry and left teaching. My desire of becoming a lecturer in PG never materialised.
What was your ambition after your HSC? Was you able to achieve it? Or you proceeded in a different path? Can you share your experience?

After completing my intermediate, I wanted to join B.Sc with Chemistry as the major subject. So I joined a government college near my grandfather's ( Mother's Father) village and studied B.Sc. I stayed with my grandparents and completed my graduation. I aim to complete my PhD in chemistry and then join an Industry or R&D lab. I joined M Sc in Andhra University and finished the course with a very good percentage. My Professor in M.Sc encouraged me to join the PhD. I applied for a CSIR fellowship and got the same. Then I joined PhD and completed the same in 3 years. After completing my doctorate I was at the university as a post-doctoral research fellow for about 2 years and then joined an industry as laboratory manager. Then I shifted that job and finally, I settled in Hyderabad in an explosive manufacturing company and worked as CEO of the company before I resigned from the post. Thus I attained my aim of becoming a senior executive of a company. As of now, I am providing technical support for some organisations in the field of explosives and high-energy materials.

Dr Rao, that is an impressive account of career making. Chemistry is a very big subject and is connected to so many industries.
Explosive materials, their chemistry, and their safety is a challenging area and you have worked in that so successfully.
Hope more members contribute about their careers after HSC.

After doing my HSC in Arts steam I went for UG choosing subjects Geography, Psychology, Hindi Literature, and General Hindi. I had good interest in Geography and had plans to go for it in my PG and one day become a Geography teacher.
After my UG results I found that in Psychology I had relatively better scores so my professors advised me to go for Psychology as getting good scores in PG meant scope of getting a lectureship job in some college.
That finally tempted me to go for PG in Psychology and I got good scores.
I was trying to get a teaching job but my parents got a good match and quickly fixed my marriage and I had to accompany my husband to a far off remote place where he was posted.
I became a housewife and still continuing voluntarily at the service of my family.

After completing 12th standard, I took admission in engineering. I wanted to be a teacher but being a bright student my father wanted me to be a doctor or an engineer. After completing mechanical engineering I started doing job. And presently working in an MNC which manufacture wiring harnesses for OEMs. But I have great affinity for teaching and I still teach my kids who are presently in 11th standard. I always wish if I were a teacher. I wanted to pursue PhD in mathematics as I love solving problems of maths.

After completing my 10+2, I did Honours in English and then did my Masters in English. After that, I did a B.Ed. I never wanted to become a teacher, so I didn't try for a job in any school. I joined a private institution as a Spoken English teacher. I thoroughly joined that stint, but it was short-lived because I got married, and my base shifted to another city.

Adjusting to my new life was my priority, and after a few years, my base shifted to another city because of my husband's transfer. It was hectic as I had a ten-month-old child, and a new city never made me think of taking up a job. Gradually, when my son started going to school, I started writing online during my free time. I am not regular because of my familial duties, but I enjoy the writing stint. Before the birth of my son, I did a creative writing course from IGNOU, which at present is helping in my writing.

This thread has given a varied information regarding making a career after 10+2 and seems useful and interesting from the point of view of the students who have just completed or are completing their 10+2.
Such case histories are valuable inputs also to the parents who are involved in planning a career path for their children at this stage. Up to HSC level things are more and less straightforward and it is only after this stage that crucial decisions for choosing an academic path are to be taken up by the students in consultation with their parents or teachers or mentors.

Shampa Sadhya, #778672, you have nicely narrated your academic journey taken up by you after your HSC and whatever I imagined about your qualifications, while reading your contents in ISC, is coming very close to what it is.
It is remarkable that you have given due preference to your family responsibilities than taking up a job and that aspect was also highlighted in one of your recent contributions.
I wish you all success as a freelancing content contributor in the internet. Keep contributing.

I read the illustrious academic journeys of many members. Frankly speaking, all these experiences are really inspiring.

Compared to all these illustrious members, my academic and career journeys have been different to some extent. After clearing my Xth and XIIth Board examinations from a very famous school in South Calcutta, I joined an equally good college under the University of Calcutta. But, unfortunately, the subject which was thrust upon me was not my favourite. People (Relatives) thought that I had got very good marks in Maths in my Boards, so naturally Maths would be my favourite subject. But that was not so.

I somehow completed B.Sc (Maths.) with terrible marks, and despite losing all interest in studies, I managed to get admission in M.Sc (Maths). As I lost all interest in Maths., at the insistence of my younger brother, I appeared in a Government Recruitment exam. and without any problem, cleared it and got a job in Railways. At that time, I was in second year of my M.Sc. and my friends were preparing for the final exam.

Later, while working, I somehow managed to appear in the final exam and the university heaved a sigh of relief to get rid of such a terribly disinterested student. I got the coveted degree from the prestigious university, but without any enthusiasm.

While working in Railways, I started preparing for other Government jobs and cleared one after another examination. Today, I can say with an element of pride that I cleared all those examinations except one interview (about which I have written here). Finally, I got settled in Delhi.

In Delhi, despite working in one after another prestigious Ministries, I started studying my favourite subjects, got three other Master Degrees (including an MBA) and one PG-Diploma.. I also cleared NET in two different subjects (Management and International Relations), but due to a small issue, I could not register myself for PhD.

Now, at the fag end of my service life, I am getting inspired by my daughter, who is currently doing PhD and has made considerable progress so far. I plan to register myself for PhD after retirement.

Let me see what happens in the future.

Partha Sir, Very inspiring career path. It is very good that you cleared many examinations for government jobs. It is very nice to know that you have cleared NET for two subjects. I hope you will complete your PhD. There is no worry about the age. You can complete your PhD even after retirement also. My sister did two MAs after retirement. So age will not be a detrimental factor for studies, I believe.

Partha, you have very honestly and precisely narrated your story after completing HSC and I must say that it the most inspiring one of the lot.
When academics is thrusted upon the students then results or scores in those exams are disappointing. But the same student performing well in competitive exam shows that the student is intelligent and knows how to carve out a successful career.
Even after getting a job going for masters in one's interest area confirms the academic ambitions of the individual. Your plan of doing PhD after retirement is equally inspiring.
    All the best.
