Do you know Rama has a sister?

As per Hindu Mythology, Lord Shriram has an elder sister. Prior to 'Putra Kameshti', King Dasarath and Rani Kausalya gave birth to a handicapped girl child who was named as Shanta. Later, the King of Anga adapted her and gave good medical treatment to bring her as a normal human being. She was very beautiful and learnt all the skills of education, war, dance and hand-works. However, she had to marry Rishyashringa, a Sage to keep Anga Rajya free from drought. Even today, people perform pujas to Shanta Devi and Rishyshringa in the Kulu region of Himachal Pradesh.

First time I came to know about this through Social media. Is it true? Do you know about it?

In Valmiki Ramayan it is clearly mentioned about the elder sister of Lord Shri Ram, but the information you have shared is a bit contradictory. There is nothing mentioned about any kind of physical or mental disability. She was perfectly fine and Raja Dasrath's childhood friend adopted her because he didn't had any children. King Romapada became the foster father and later she got married to a sage named Rishyashringa to save the people from drought.

As you said, it is mythology and there isn't any proof. Everyone has their own story to tell because nobody at present has the evidence to prove their story's genuineness, that's why it is called mythology. People have belief and we need to respect their views and opinions about their religion. There are different versions of Ramayana and everyone has their own story to tell. You can even read Buddhist Ramayana, Indonesian Ramayana and Malaysian Ramayana. These all versions tell stories, which you will not be able to digest, but you have to respect them because it's a matter of religion.

Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

The name of Rama's sister was Shanta. She was handicapped and older than the four brothers. Shanta was the daughter of King Dasaratha and Queen Kausalya.

When Shanta was born, there was a famine in Ayodhya. Dasaratha was advised that the cause of the famine was his daughter Shanta. So, King Dasaratha gave his daughter Shanta to King Rompad of Angadesh and his wife Varshini to end the famine. Shanta never came to Ayodhya. Dasaratha was afraid of calling her to Ayodhya, as there might be famine again.

Yes. I know that Rama has a sister named Shanta Devi. Shanta Devi was adopted by the king of Anga Rajya called Romapada.
Rishyashringa was brought up by his father in a lonely place(forest) where no women were seen. Rishyashringa was born with deer horns. He gained Yogic powers under the guidance of his father. The forest in which Rishysshringa was grown belongs to the Kingdom of Anga ruled by the king Rompada. Once in that kingdom, there was a serious drought. King was told that the power of Rishyashringa could end the drought in his kingdom.
The King send some courtesans from his country to attract Rishyashringa and bring him to his town. When Rishyashringa's father was not with him, these courtesans could attract him and bring him to the town. As soon as he entered the town heavy rains were there and drought was ended. The king was happy but he feared that the father of Rishyashringa would curse him for bringing him to his place without informing him. So he got his daughter married to Rishyashringa so that his father could be happy. After marriage, Shanta Devi and Rishyashringa went to the forest and lived there. Dasaratha invited Rishyashrings to his kingdom to perform Putra Kamsethi.

I had read about that in some religious monthly magazine. The story is same as described above by members.
People are not aware of it because it is not mentioned in Ramcharitmanas with which most of the common people in our country are aware.
Mythological stories generally have a few versions also as their narraters and reproducers change them as per their perceptions and social behaviours pertaing to those times.
Today because of social media everyone wants to contribute in the open public forums and that is why we are getting all sort of information in our mobiles and we are also getting repeated revisions of earlier read stories.

This is some thing new for me as we are never taught that lord Rama had a sister. From the childhood we have been studying that Lord Rama were four brothers.

I also read about it in a forwarded post in WhatsApp. The details are more and less as elaborated by members in above responses.
Our Hindu mythology is a complex web of ancient stories pertaining to great kings and how they were successful in killing the demons from time to time.
Some of these kings were considered as the avatars of God because they had exceptional powers and influence during that time.
Lord Rama is the most talked about and also worshipped by the people since that time. Saint Valmiki wrote about it in Sanskrit in his book 'Ramayan' and then the great poet Tulsidas later wrote it in a common dialect and produced Ramcharitmanas and rest is history.
