    Complacency may stop our growth

We are in a world of change. Many changes are taking place in and around the world. Many organisations are shedding their old technologies and going for modern technologies. Many new developments are taking place and all the employees should update their knowledge and skills. Then only they can have their place in the system and continue. If they become complacent and think that they can manage the job without having the required knowledge, it will be very difficult for them to grow and occupy better positions in the organisation.
In the ever-changing environment, a complacent person may not grow and sometimes chances are there for falling also. I like to know the views of other members on this matter.

Today we are living in a dynamic world. Business environment is changing fast and companies have to foresee the coming changes and align themselves to the new environment and shift to new businesses. Many things are getting obsolete and the related business are closing down. The business environment is becoming more and more challenging.
Technogical advancements are bringing in new innovations and the whole business dynamics is affected.
Complacency has no place in today's environment. Complacent people will soon be out of the job.
There are young dynamic people who are able to work in a dynamic environment and help the organisation to progress. These young people are the business leaders of tomorrow.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

If we compare the present workplaces with the workplaces of earlier times then we will find significant differences. Let us take example of one simple job position that is personal assistant to a senior officer. In good old times the job was limited to take dictation and type it and present to the boss for signature. Then there were some simple jobs like attending the telephone and connecting to the boss.
Today the workplace set up is changed drastically and the assistant has a full fledged desktop computer in which all the information and earlier correspondences are stored. If boss asks a particular data the assistant has to find it and do the needful. Further, assistant has to plan the travel of boss on short notices and be in touch with the agencies concerned. If office gadgets are not working assistant has to coordinate for their repair. So there is a job enlargement in the present times and assistant should have skills related to computer. If assistant does not know Excel or some other spreadsheet utility then it becomes a very big disqualification. If some new office application comes which is better than the earlier one then as per the requirement the assistant will have to learn it.
Assistant cannot say that he or she will not learn new things. Acquiring skills has become mandatory in the present environment.
Those who are complacent and do not upgrade with time will perish.

    Knowledge is power.

Once upon a time, Stenos were in big demand. Boss used to dictate and the steno used to write it in shorthand and later on type it. Now that concept is not there. All those Stenos learned how to work on a laptop or desktops and now their jobs are much different. I know some Stenos who last their job due to not updating their knowledge. So ultimately what we should know is learning can't be stopped after getting into a job. We should continue our skill development programs continuously forever.
