    How does moderation help us in our lives?

    In our Indian mythology and ancient scriptures many places it is mentioned that moderation is key to a happy and contented life. Moderation means to do things in a limited way and never go for extremes. For example over-exercise can harm us by affecting the muscles and ligaments in our body and that is why experts suggest us to do exercises in moderation. Another example could be of eating. Health specialist often tell us to eat in moderation, keep fast or go for intermittent fasting or take small meals with gaps, etc. There are many such activities in our lives where moderation helps us in a big way.
    What are your views on this? Is moderation helpful in our lives? Please share your experiences.

    In simple words, 'anything within the limits' is always better. Whether it is food intake, doing exercise, making friendship or moving with relatives. definitely we have to draw a line and see that we don't go beyond the periphery.

    That is true. There will be always maximum and minimum limits. We should be always in between those limits only. If we cross these limits anything can happen. Believing somebody more than required, depending on somebody more than required, Spending lavishly and unnecessarily, eating too much and not eating is never advisable. Some people interfere in the matters of others without understanding the issues properly. Such behaviour will spoil the relations.
    There was a saying in Telugu which means that too much is not recommended. Too much money may spoil our lives. When a wife and husband are discussing an issue, even parents also should not interfere. But they should tell their views if they ask.
    There are instances where couples get separated because of the unnecessary involvement of parents and inlaws.

    This is an interesting topic. Moderation is something to be exercised in our lives. It is a great philosophy and requires control and discipline in our lives if we want to embrace this nectar in us.
    I have seen some old people in my village who are doing moderation in their lives not today but for a long time. One particular lady there took food only one time in a day and she was very healthy till the age of about 90.
    The secret of a healthy life lies in the art of moderation and those who undertake it are the real winners.
    It is not only the health that is the gift of moderation but a person who uses it in one's talks and dealings and behaviour surely gains a strong mind.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

    Let me add some more thoughts to this topic. There are many people in this world who consume things without any control or limit. Whether it is food or drinks or entertainment or any fun activity they undertake it as much as possible. They feel happy with that lifestyle and do not bother for the consequences. A stage comes when they get all types of health problems and other problems created by indiscipline and unnecessary indulgences in their lives. The importance of moderation can be realised at such junctures and there are many case studies and case histories where adopting moderation techniques helped these people to become normal and restore their health.
    Moderation is a simple technique which says that avoid extreme of everything. If we are hungry and can take a good amount of food then we should stop at about 80% of that and with control on ourselves we can definitely do that. This is only one example of eating. Moderation can be applied in every area in our lives.

    Knowledge is power.

    What the author is suggesting is a nice tip. Though indulgence to exercise is a good way for the maintenance of health but that should be in moderation. However, the people forget the extremities sometimes and indulge themselves for the exercise beyond the limit thinking that they should compensate the time for even for the past few days when they were not active. Such an erratic mode disturbs the body's metabolism.
    Similarly, we are not accustomed to light eating especially when we are taking our meals along with our friends or it is a get-together of people on some specific occasion. Such indulgences cause life - style diseases but cannot leave the old habits.
