Chess is considered a game of brain power and strategy. There are some countries like Russia, US, and China which are on the top in this game and India is ranking after them in various categories mostly somewhere at 4th/5th number.

During last few decades interest in playing chess has increased and there are many players from India participating in various championships at different levels. Young Indian chess players are also participating in various categories like 'under 14' or 'under 12'.

FIDE (Federation Internationale des Echecs), France is the International Chess Federation and is the governing body for the game of chess. As per FIDE's world rankings list for April 2024, in the top 25 men's list there are 5 Indian men, in the top 15 women's ranks, there are 3 Indians, and in junior rankings there are 7 Indians among the top 20. That shows that India is having a good participation in the international level matches.

Earlier, Indian player Vishwanathan Anand had won the World Championship a few times.

Now D. Gukesh is selected to play in the World Chess Championship 2024. Incidentally his coach is
Grandmaster Vishnu Prasanna, who is guiding him in this difficult game. I wish D. Gukesh all the best and success in this endeavour.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Chess is not a light game. It requires strong mind strength and interest to excel in this game. In India many players are there who play well. It is very nice to understand that D. Gukesh, the youngest chess player from India, qualified in the Fides Candidate Tournament. He made all of us happy. Incidentally, he is also from Tamil Nadu.
Teenage Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa is the new No. 1 in India. He overtook Visva Anand and became no.1 in February. The interesting thing here is all three lads are from Tamil Nadu India.
Manuel Aron, the first titled player from India earned his International Master (IM) title in the year 1961. According to FIDE, the International Chess Federation, Indian chess players include 68 Grandmasters, 124 International Masters, 20 Woman Grandmasters, and 42 Woman International Masters, and a total of 33,028 rated players. These statistics were given as of January 2021,
