Which of the two is more important? Wisdom or wealth

Wisdom and wealth. These two are required for a human being to live on this earth. Many people may have one of the two but not both. Some people feel that wealth is more important for a happy life. But some feel wisdom is necessary.

I believe that wisdom is more important than wealth. A man with wisdom can earn money. But with money, you may earn degrees but not knowledge. A rich man may not know how effectively he can use his money. But if a wise man earns a little he knows how he can make it multifold. I have seen some rich people wasting their money without any proper understanding and suffering a lot in their final days.

I like to know the opinion of other members on this issue.

I am in favour of wisdom since money can provide us with a lot of comforts but real satisfaction will elude us. There might be a craze for more and more earnings and such a passion cannot be given up so easily. The ultimate stress is mental stress which can produce ill effects on our bodies in the form of high blood - pressure, elevation of sugar - levels, sleep -disorders etc. Hence wealth does not provide us real satisfaction whereas with the applicantion of wisdom, we can make our life more meaningful.

Wisdom is something that comes with age and experience. A person becomes wise only after learning and experiencing the various actions and their results in one's life. Coming to the relative strength of money and wisdom these are two important factors that shape our lives and help us to reach the pinnacle of success. Some amount of money is essential for our survival and livelihood but that alone is of no use if we don't learn and become wiser after doing something and acquiring experience and knowledge.
I would say that in our lives we should have a congenial balance of these two entities so that we do not suffer lacking one or other in our lives. A rich father can give all sort of money to his child but until the child becomes wise enough to understand the value of that money he would not be utilising it judiciously. Wisdom is required in taking correct decisions in our lives as well as managing our resources in the best possible manner.

In my view also these two entities have got their own importance and they are there in our lives supplementing and complementing each other. In today's materialistic world who can ignore the worth of money. It can bring so many facilities in our lives as the saying goes - money makes the mare go.
At the same time money is not the everything in our lives. God has blessed us a beautiful brain and if we do not acquire knowledge and become wise with time then it is wastage of such a fine brain power. A wise person is one who knows what to talk, what to do, and what to achieve in one's life. It is the wisdom that brings prudence and decision making ability in us. Without wisdom our lives can go haywire.
Our ancient saints did a lot of activities for learning about the nature and always made efforts to improve their knowledge. Our scriptures are a testimony to that. Those people while learning attained true wisdom and their teachings are still echoing in those scriptures.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

I think both are equally important. As has been discussed in this this forum multiple times, we need not compare wealth and wisdom.

If we think practically, I think wealth will weigh a bit higher than wisdom. A person who is experienced and wise may not be able to survive if he has no wealth. Let us accept the fact that wealth is something that can shadow all our shortcomings. What would a person with lot of wisdom do if he has no wealth? By wealth I do not mean lots of cash or material comforts, I mean sufficient capacity to meet his day-to-day needs. So, though both are important, I would say that, at least in the present-day context, that wealth is more important that wisdom.

I think earning may not be possible just with wisdom. There is a minimum requirement of money to carry on in our lives. As mentioned by Saji, managing life without money is impossible but we can manage without wisdom. But people with wisdom may make their life more happy with his knowledge. A person who is not knowledgeable may do unskilled work and earn his lively hood. A man having wisdom can earn money by doing skilled work.

It all depends on the person. If the person has no wealth then wealth is the most important thing to her/him and I am sure the person will work towards earning something to meet the expenses. On the other hand, a person lacking wisdom but enough wealth will try to acquire wisdom at all costs.

I do not know whether these two can be compared but if compared they are like food and water. If you are very thirsty you will look for water instead of food and vice-versa.

I liked the view of Sankalan and it was very nice to see the comparison of wisdom & wealth with water & food. This comparison gives us a feeling that both are required for a happy living.

Both wisdom and wealth are essential in life. There may be situations when just presence of either one is not helpful. There may be situations when wisdom helps us to exist, survive and sustain. Wealth may not be useful or rather it may lead to further dangers. Exactly opposite may also happen.
We have heard or read about incidents when even small children who got kidnapped happen to escape from their captors using their wisdom and cleverness. The use of wealth properly also needs wisdom. The life of spies and informants need wisdom as well as wealth too depending on the circumstances they face.
There can be situations when one comes to help in the absence of the other.
So we should not forsake or avoid either wealth or wisdom, but have both in our life in a perfect balance and use both properly for our own benefit and for others. For this we have to grow and increase both by genuine efforts.

ISC is one small example where both some wisdom and some money are coming and we all work towards that.
