'Work from Home' - still to be continued?

Covid-19 has changed all the spheres of our life including the work culture. We won't adopt any thing on our own unless it is told by someone. If we like the advice it would be a theory for all times and won't revert to the old edition because it is more convenient to practice. 'Work from Home' was one such concept which the Indian Prime Minister has advised all the working communities as a measure of taking care of the working class to escape from the menace of the Corona and to maintain the productivity at that time. The feasibility of continuing the same for IT sector till things got stabilized was suggested and both parties 'Owner and the owned' were happy.

Everything is fine and more than normal but many of the IT companies still continue the concept for the best reasons - Work productivity increased, curtail in office expenditure drastically and so on. Even the employees are not feeling bored and they are contributing more than that of sitting in their office premises. Problems and troubleshooting are resolved online and making no difference. Some sincere people working more sincerely to one ore more companies as reported by the media.

But office environment is always different with dedicated working hours and discussions can be made offline with regular interactions and meetings. It would be easier to monitor the work and guide the people than that of the same on online mode. Particularly, the new recruits should not be allowed to work from home. Over all, the concept worked very well but still to continue has its own merits and de-merits, I feel. What do you say?

Work from home concept became more prominent during the Covid situation and helped well in mitigating the crisis.
In many job types the work from home suits well because it makes no difference whether the employee sits in the home or comes to workplace. Many IT programming projects fall in this category. But there are some jobs where presence of the employees in workplace is essential for better productivity and better business decisions.
Many employees are happy with work from home option as it saves their commuting time, they can do the work as per their own schedule and still meet the deadlines, and other such conveniences. Those who are good at multitasking, work from home is a great opportunity to do so.
I fully agree that the new recruits should not be given this option as it will simply rust them. I have seen a case where due to whatever reasons the new recruits were given work from home assignment for 3-4 months and after that they were asked to join the workplace and they started to complain that workload had drastically increased and in that respect work from home was very easygoing phase.

    Knowledge is power.

There was a time when no one imagined that something like work from home exists in this world. But there are some natural disasters that change our views about many established practices. Covid pandemic was one such disaster that brought the concept of work from home in a big way. But that was an emergency situation and such a measure was taken to maintain the productivity of the offices and organisations.
Once the situation is normal then work from home should be given only in the genuine cases where it does not interfere in the progress and development of the organisation and instead helps the organisation.
New employees can learn many traits of good workmanship only in the workplace. It is necessary to expose them to workplace.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Work from home is still in force in some of the IT companies. Some are going in the hybrid model. Monthly 8 days or 10 days going to the office and the remaining days working from home. My two sons are in the IT field only. The elder son goes 8 days in a month to office and the second son goes 10 days in a month to office.
Work from home concept is found to be good for both the company and the employee. If all the people are going to the office all the days the traffic menace in cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore will become further high. For employees also the commuting time will be saved and money on transportation will also be saved. Office expenses will come down.
The work turnout is found to be the same in both formats. That is why still the work from home is continued. Many male employees are attending both work-from-home and work-from-home also when they are not going to the office. That is a benefit to the housewife.

Though the earlier system- working from home has been discontinued in many forms but stll some firms are allowing some of employees to resort to this system. It entirely depends upon the IT companies where they are working. However, the earlier mode ie entirely working from has been restricted.
It has created some sort of inconvenience to the employees due to busy traffic and as a result they are not in a position to reach office in their scheduled hours. Considering the inconvenience of the employees, they should review the situation for raising their productivity levels.
