Is there an ideal walking speed as a guideline?

Post my heart attack, I have been advised to walk for at least thirty minutes a day. I tried to walk fast but could not do so. So, I try my best to walk a bit fast, but never have a standard.

And then comes some advise from people who walk or do not walk at all. They would tell me that a brisk walk is compulsory and that I should exceed a three kilometer per day.

My cardiologist, one of the best in the country, does not agree. He would advise me to have my own style and not rush through the walk

Frankly, is there a limit to walk, particularly for heart patients like me, with daily compulsory medication every day? And what about normal people?
Is there any advanced research finding ever published in India or abroad, that is authentic?

Please go by the advice of your cardiologist. You say he is one of the best in the country and yet you do appear to be in doubt which is not good. There are no such guidelines for walking. Brisk walking is advised for people who do not have health issues like heart problems etc. Walk at your own pace in which you feel comfortable.

Walking is a common exercise and many of us do it regularly. In my knowledge there is no formula for the speed that we should be adhering to and should not go more or less than that.
From common sense any speed in which one is comfortable is alright. In young age some experts advise us to walk briskly. That might be ok during that phase but once the age advances brisk walking might create problem also as there have been cases of collapsing of the people while walking or walking on a treadmill.
A cardiologist is supposed to know about it much more correctly than us and it makes sense to adhere to his advice. However we can check some genuine resources also in the matter in health journals.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Walking is a simple exercise but at the same time, it is equally effective. Brisk walking is beneficial provided you don't have any heart issues. If some palpitations are noticeable during the process of walking, walking has to be regulated to such a speed that this issue does not occur.
Moreover, timing is also important. The best time for indulgence for a stroll is either the early morning or in the evening after sunset. We have to ensure ourselves that exercise is to be followed not on a full stomach otherwise chances are there that it might create health issues.

The speed of walking will vary from person to person as it is not only an individual trait but also depends on one's physical condition. It is obvious that healthy people can go for a brisk walk also. In fact fat and healthy people are advised by the doctors or health experts for undertaking long brisk walks.
I have seen many old people walking in the nearby park in a slow pace. They walk a lot but do not sweat.
So, there are many variations and individual choice also plays a role. However, taking the advice of a qualified health expert or doctor will be a correct step in the matter.

    Knowledge is power.

What your doctor tells you is the standard for you. You need not think about your doctor's advice. Simply follow that. Some people say daily one has to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps. But as far as my knowledge goes there are no set of rules for walking. It may vary from person to person.
Social media posts are causing a lot of confusion in many of us. Let us not take them as authentic. Don't take them seriously. 30 minutes walk a day is really good. If somebody is not able to do that walk as much as possible. This 30 minutes need not be in one go. It can be in portions and in a day you can complete 30 minutes. Walking briskly is good but one should take the advice of the doctor and follow that without any deviation. Walking is a very good activity and no extra expenditure. 30 minutes every day can decrease heart-related issues, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance.

Daily walking for purpose of physical activity and exercise should be done in moderation, starting at a slow pace and short duration. Then observing and gauging your comfort and avoiding any strain you may slowly and gradually increase the distance covered, duration and the pace. However always heed to your Doctor's advice and instructions.

Though for a normal person (without any diagnosed health issues, especially of heart) the walking should be such that one should start sweating, when the weather as such does not make you sweat. Here also one should start slowly in pace, duration and distance and seeing how body responds, slowly and gradually increase pace, distance and duration.

Even a normal evening walk type walk is also having its own benefits, as energy is expended then also. If the aim is not weight loss, but just to maintain circulation proper and some movement, then just comfortable walk is enough. One can start at one's home inside or
on the front or back yard and then knowing the threshold and comfort level, one can move outside near home where traffic is less, grass is there or path is comfortable.

If yo have company of friends then walking comfortably chatting is the best in your case.
