Why are some courses not available everywhere?

Loyola College, Chennai is a fabulous college, with the highest standards of highly ethical education. And very good discipline as well. It offers too many good courses and it's location -- a prime locality of Chennai metropolitan city -- is a big plus.

In the early 1980s, this college introduced a superb course called B.Sc(Visual Communication). This course leads the students to highly fruitful careers in the electronic media, in journalism, in event management and what have you.

Yet, this highly job-oriented course is specific only to Tamil Nadu Arts and Science colleges. It is not available in other Universities.

Similarly a Bachelor's Degree in Capital Markets management does not seem to be available in most Universities or possibly, is not available at all. The UGC needs to formulate guidelines where the public and private partnership can easily formulate such courses. For example, the National Stock Exchange should involve experts from Mutual Finds and the Stock Market and introduce this course in Bombay University.

We need some urgent action for such courses.

There may be some other colleges with these courses that might not have caught your attention, I feel. There are some courses which are not known to many students. Many students may not know the chances of getting a job by studying such courses. The general trend that I have seen is there will be some common subjects in almost all the colleges. Those subjects may be generally known subjects like history, civics, economics etc. The demand for such subjects will be more and are traditional courses. So we will find such subjects. But some speciality subjects will be always available in a few colleges only.

There is a big list of job oriented courses and every educational institution cannot offer all of those to the students. Institutions will have their own set of courses under particular streams.
Sometimes the title of the course is different but content is same and students simply get confused by that.
One important thing in this matter is that if a particular course is able to provide a job to the student easily then there is a quick crowd to acquire that qualification and in a populated country like India so many institutions will come forward to cash on the opportunity and induct the course in their premises as early as possible.
So I do not think that these courses are the sure short cut to career making but are available only in one or two educational institutions.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
