Village ponds and all the fun

There is a lovely village near a South Tamil Nadu town called Tirunelveli. The number of ponds here always have teenagers happily taking bath during the summer season. A good friend of mine has sent a few photos and one video of such lovely moments enjoyed by his grandchildren. The boys and sometimes girls also normally join in the fun.

The photos showed some village girls applying the traditional turmeric on their faces. There is a rich agricultural background to this town.

It should be great to live a while in such natural habitats. The village folks still enjoy when they see a movie in the theatre after a good bath in the pond, a sumptuous lunch and the afternoon nap and then outing in the evening.

Well, this is what my friend was saying. Good return to nature.

A village is where people have many natural resources to enjoy and have fun. During my childhood, in our village, there were 5 ponds. One pond was only for people to have their baths and swim. Another pond was for animals to get cleaned. Many boys and girls used to take baths in the pond and they used to swim. I also used to have baths in that pond even today. Sometimes we used to go to the Godavari river and bathe there. Last time in April I was there with my granddaughter and they also bathed in that pond.
Many young people go with cows and buffaloes to the other pond and they get into that pond and clean the animals. They used to sit on the buffaloe and play in the pond. These are the ways they enjoy their time with fun. There will be no separate swimming pools in villages.

During my childhood, I was living in a hilly place and we used to go on picnics especially during school holidays. Generally, we went to temples near which we had some water springs and small water tanks. The water of these springs is very tasty as it comes after getting filtered through the soil. It is actually mineral water.
We used that water for drinking and some of us used to take bath in the tank. The water in these tanks is much cooler than the water in the ponds in the plain areas in our country. So, some people avoid taking bath in it.
Summer is the great time to enjoy these water springs in the hilly areas and we have to go to some good place because some of the springs get dried up during the extreme summer time and then we see only a small trickling of water in place of a thick spring fall.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

In the big cities, people who can afford, go to swimming pools and enjoy during the summer time. In many good housing societies there is provision of swimming pool for which residents pay some maintenance. On the other hand in villages or remote areas there is no such facility but ponds are there where rain water is collected during rainy season and then people use it for various purposes. Village ponds are easily accessible to the people living nearby and are good places for taking a bath in scorching summer.
Even for the city people it would be a good change if they visit such villages and have a change from their lives from the hustle and bustle of crowded cities.

    Knowledge is power.

The villages are naturally beautiful with gushing water streams for drinking and agricultural purposes. The beauty of village life woo everyone visiting the place. People enjoy the verdant trails and partake in thrilling activities in agricultural fields. Children also enjoy fully in every way possible. Childhood is a wonderful stage of life and children are free from restrictions and responsibilities. So they try to enjoy and engage in different activities they love. Gardens, parks, or orchards are everyone's favorites and all would like to visit and enjoy the beautiful space. Children would like to pluck different fruits from orchards and gardens and get involved in naughty activities. During summer children would love to bath to beat the heat and enjoy the calmness in gushing streams. Village life is full of fun and filled with natural beauty. There is a diverse array of trails in villages that keep people engaged and thriving.

I was brought up in a village till I was about ten years old. Every day I used to take bath in a small river along with my grandmother and aunt or in the temple tank with my grandfather or grand uncle. I used to swim also. It was routine and fun too.
But after that on moving to the town and staying with my parents, my bathing was confined to closed bathroom except that occasionally we siblings used to take bath and frolic in the then newly cut irrigation canal. But since I had reached high school age, I have never taken bath in pond or river. The only exception was during pilgrimage a fast and shallow dip in Ganga or Rameswaram sea.

Today I do not venture to take a dip in a pond or river as they are not clean and not well maintained and the unfamiliar ones may be risky.
