Have you ever got trapped in a fire incident? Share your experience

A large number of fire incidents are happening from time to time in the residential buildings, market areas, industries, and other places. There are many reasons for these fire incidents but the main reason told is electrical short circuit or lose connection creating spark followed by fire.
When a fire breaks out then people become panicky and start evacuating the affected area. There is no time to even collect some belongings and people try to rush out of the fire affected areas as quickly as possible.
Due to easy and quick availability of fire extinguishing units, many fires are controlled quickly saving property and loss of lives. Still, there are cases where in crowded and inaccessible areas, fire spreads widely creating huge destruction.
Have you anytime trapped or observed fire incidents in your building or housing complex or area? What was your reaction to that? Did you help others? Please share your experience.

I have seen many fire accidents, not in residential buildings. All the accidents I have seen were in industries. I worked in explosive and pyrotechnic industries dealing with many hazardous chemicals. Here safety of operations and the safety of human beings is essential. Even after taking all required precautions, fire accidents occur due to human negligence or human error. But the measures taken will protect human lives and loss of property may be there.
The first and foremost important instruction is to use the correct type of fire extinguishers in pyrotechnics.
All the employees will be trained in firefighting and first aid. In case of any fire accident, all of them have the knowhow to fight the fire and what first aid is to be given. There was a separate first aid center and people were given first aid in that center within the plant. There was a separate safety department under whom all these people used to work.

I think people living in multistorey buildings should acquaint themselves with fire fighting home gadgets and should be prepared for any eventuality. In many housing societies fire drills are carried out but very few people take interest in that and do not learn the operation of the household fire fighting equipment and depend only on some external help in the matter.
In our multistorey building, there are a number of shops in the ground floor. About 3 years back in one of the shops due to some electrical fault fire broke out and due to the pressure of smoke, the closed shutter and glass wall of the shop front collapsed and we heard a big noise and saw that flames were coming out from the shop. Immediately people started to evacuate using the stairs as lift was not to be used in such times. As it was night time (almost early morning), so people were sleeping. So, the persons who were going down the stairs were pressing the door bells at the flats at various
    storeys and shouting 'fire'.
We also hurriedly got out and started going down through the stairs. Within a few minutes people were outside the building and by that time as the fire station was nearby the fire extinguishers were already reached and were sprinkling water on that shop. The fire was contained and it did not spread to the nearby shops or upper storeys mainly because of concrete slabs in between. Thanks to the prompt fire services that the fire was controlled within a few hours.
It was a fearful sight and I still remember how we all were shocked by that.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Let me share my experience in this regard. When I was studying in my class VII, we were living in a crowded market place where shops were there on the ground floor and people lived on the upper storeys. The houses were all joined in a line and maximum height of houses was upto three storeys.
One evening suddenly there was a fire in one of the shop and it started from a storage of kerosene oil which leaked on the floor and picked fire from some abandoned match stick or cigarette.
At that time houses were made with stone, mud, and wooden logs and the fire spread quickly and people evacuated their houses and came out in the open.
There were no modern fire extinguishers available at that time and water jets were thrown on the fire in a primitive way. So, the fire continued almost throughout the night and by the morning the whole row of buildings was a heap of ash and burnt material.
We had to leave and take shelter in a Govt office and then searched a house for living on rent.
It was a horrible experience to witness that type of fire which did a great devastation in that place.

    Knowledge is power.

Yesterday there was a big fire accident in a chemical factory in Dombvilli, Mumbai. Many might have seen the accident on TV as it is shown live on many channels and the representative of the channel near the accident site was running and talking while running. Around 6 people died. Such accidents make us very unhappy.
There was a big similar accident in the organisation where I was working but fortunately no casualties. On that day we felt it was easy to manage the accidents but it was difficult to manage the media people. That whole night I was in the factory answering government officials and media people. My other colleagues managed the accident site.
