Congratulations to these Indian ladies for their outstanding achievements in Cannes Film Festival

Yesterday (25th May 2024) a film titled 'All We Imagine as Light' made by filmmaker Payal Kapadia won the Grand Prix award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. It is said to be a great honour for an Indian filmmaker to showcase the work in a prestigious film festival like that and she has now become the first ever Indian female director having achieved those laurels.
Though not in the main category but under the 'un certain regard' category, another Indian lady Anasuya Sengupta bagged the best actress award in the Hindi language movie 'The Shameless' made by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov.
Please join me to congratulate these ladies for their outstanding achievements.

Cannes Film Festival is one of the best out of five international film festivals and it is considered a great honor by film makers to even take part in the festival. It is indeed a proud moment for India, especially for those from the movie industry and movie buffs that the Malayalam-Hindi movie 'All We Imagine as Light' by Payal Kapadia has won the prestigious Grand Prix award at the 77th Cannes festival. The movie tells the story of two Malayali nurses based in Mumbai and the characters have also been enacted by two actresses from Kerala, Kani Kusruthi and Divya Prabha alongside Chaya Kadam. Hearty congratulations to director, the actors and all those who have been part of the movie! It is after a gap of thirty long years that a movie from India is getting recognition at Cannes.

Many congratulations to Anasuya Sengupta also for winning the best actress award for the film 'The Shameless' in the 'Un Certain category'!

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Santhosh Sivan, the renowned cinematographer, for winning the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in cinematography award named after the inventor of the zoom lens.

Hope our film makers create more such movies treading the path of their legendary predecessors and make us proud in the international arena.

It is good to note that two Indian films and filmmakers are honoured in a prestigious film festival. Last year at the Oscar Awards Indian Telugu film named "RRR" obtained an award and brought recognition to Telugu movies internationally. Now in the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, by winning the Grand Prix award, the All We Imagine as Light, movie made all the Indians proud. Let us congratulate all the on the screen and behind the screen persons involved. Well done, keep it up. We should congratulate ' Payal Kapadia ' for becoming the first Indian female director to win such a prestigious award.
My congratulations to Anasuya Sengupta for winning the best actress award for her role in the Hindi language movie 'The Shameless' made by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov. I like to congratulate the producer also for giving a chance to this lady in the film and making her win this prestigious award in the 'un certain regard' category,
